Overview
The Pre-Press and Print Room Operative plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our digital and wide format department. The position involves a variety of tasks that support the setup and production of digital and wide format print. The ideal candidate will possess some knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and will be guided in using our wide format flatbed, roll to roll and smaller digital printers. The role is varied and requires someone who is willing to learn on the job and assist in other departments when required.
Duties
Setting client artwork for proofing and once approved, preparing for print.
Thoroughly checking all work produced before forwarding to a colleague or client.
Liaising with customers and colleagues in a timely manner on the telephone and via email.
Operate and maintain roll to roll, flatbed and Konica digital printers. This includes cleaning and maintain stock of inks and cleaning equipment.
Maintaining the company artwork database to ensure only relevant information is recorded
Checking all work for errors and accuracy before passing to clients or other departments for finishing
Managing own workload to ensure a steady flow onto other departments.
Ensuring order details are updated with relevant artwork details and job progress.
Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while operating machinery and handling materials.
Additional support to other departments when required.
Skills
Good knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Excellent attention to detail is required to ensure artwork and finished print is error free.
Willingness to learn new skills and work in other departments when required.
Good organisational skills with attention to detail in maintaining database accuracy.
Strong teamwork skills, demonstrating the ability to work in a sometimes fast-paced environment.
This role is ideal for individuals who are hands-on, proactive, and eager to learn new skills within our organisation. We should note that though there is a requirement for design skills this is generally amending existing artwork and preparing it for print.
