Position Overview: We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry to join our team in Wakefield, Yorkshire. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in providing clinical leadership and expertise in old age mental health, supporting the delivery of comprehensive psychiatric services to older adults in the local community. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to mental health care provision while advancing your career in old age psychiatry. The post on offer will be an immediate start for an ongoing period of 3 months ending on 17/12/2024. This post offers competitive rates. Key Responsibilities: Providing expert psychiatric assessment and diagnosis for older adults with a wide range of mental health conditions, including dementia, depression, anxiety, and psychosis. Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines, incorporating pharmacological, psychological, and social interventions as appropriate. Providing leadership and clinical supervision to multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists-in-training, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists, to ensure high-quality and coordinated care delivery. Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and clinical reviews to contribute to the development and review of patients' care plans and treatment goals. Providing education and support to older adults and their families/caregivers on mental health conditions, treatment options, and strategies for managing symptoms and promoting well-being. Collaborating with external agencies, including primary care providers, care homes, and community mental health teams, to facilitate integrated care pathways and improve access to services. Participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and research activities to enhance the quality and effectiveness of old age mental health care provision. Requirements: Medical degree and completion of specialist training in old age psychiatry, with full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry. Substantial post-qualification experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in old age mental health services, with demonstrable clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with older adults and their families. Commitment to delivering person-centered care and promoting recovery-oriented practices. Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in old age mental health care. Willingness to participate in on-call duties and attend meetings and training sessions as required.
