Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Purpose of the role:
* Provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for the children
* Give support to other personnel within the nursery
* Implement the daily routine in the base room
* Promote equal opportunities and inclusive practice
* Maintain professional conduct and practice in accordance with statutory regulations and stated policies
* Be responsible to the Nursery Manager, Deputy Manager and Room Supervisor
* Operate a programme of activities suitable to the age and development range of children in your area in conjunction with other staff and contribute to curriculum planning and assessment as required
* Keep a proper record of achievement file on your key children, for parents
* Work with the parents of children with special needs to give full integration in the nursery
* Support all staff and engage in a good staff team
* Liaise with and support parents and other family members
* Be involved in all out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, summer fayre, Christmas party
* To be flexible within working practices of the nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including undertaking certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. preparation of snack, meals, cleansing of equipment
* Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that mission statement of the nursery is fulfilled
* Record accidents in the accident book
* Look upon the nursery as a “whole”. Where can your help be most utilised? Be constantly aware of the needs of the children
* Ensure the child is collected by someone known to the nursery
* Respect the confidentiality of information received
* Develop your role within the team, especially with regard as a key worker
Complete specific childcare tasks:
* The preparation and completion of activities to suit the child’s stage of development
* Ensure that mealtimes are a pleasant social sharing experience
* Washing and changing children as required and encouraging independence as appropriate
* Provide comfort and warmth to a poorly child
* Ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious background and stages of development
* Be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times
* Maintain such records and registers as may be required in accordance with statutory regulations and nursery policy, e.g. curriculum planning and baseline assessment, accident records
* Assist in the supervision of staff as required
* Undertake other duties as may be requested by the nursery manager or deputy
