Consultant Diagnostic Neuroradiologist (Consultant) - Neuroradiology - The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – Tyne and Wear
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team.
Based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle City Centre, this role is a substantive full-time job with on-call, but we are happy to consider applicants wishing to work less than full time with a pro rata share of the on-call.
In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research, and audit.
Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.
This post is based at the Neurosciences Centre. The post-holder will contribute to the daytime diagnostic neuroradiology service and take a share of the diagnostic neuroradiology on-call rota. To cover the needs of the service, a subspecialist interest in neuro-oncology and/or low pressure imaging and intervention is desirable.
The appointee will have the chance to participate in teaching and supervision of the radiology and neuroradiology trainees.
The appointee will be expected to undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of his/her patients and in relation to the running of the Department of Neuroradiology in co-operation with the Heads of Department, Specialty Manager, and Clinical Director.
The department provides out-of-hours on-call service and in-hours attending service to provide urgent reports and opinions.
Clinical Responsibilities:
1. Participate in departmental work in providing neuroradiology services to our patients.
2. Provide diagnostic neuroradiology services.
3. Contribute to the spinal intervention service, including sub-specialised low pressure work (the latter desirable but not essential).
4. Contribute to departmental MDT delivery (ideally including adult neuro-oncology MDT).
5. Contribute to the departmental attending system.
6. Take part in departmental diagnostic neuroradiology on-call.
Administrative Duties:
1. Undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of his/her patients and in relation to the running of the Department of Neuroradiology, in co-operation with the Heads of Department, Specialty Manager, and Clinical Director.
2. Become involved with the financial management of the Directorate budget - at all times looking to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to agreed standards, but at the same time reviewing working practices to provide the most efficient use of resources.
Research:
The Trust welcomes and encourages research.
Teaching:
Newcastle Hospitals provides an enthusiastic training environment for radiologists, radiographers, and medical students. The radiology training is delivered through the School of Radiology within the Health Education England (North-East). Training and supervision opportunities are encouraged.
Support:
The appointee will have shared office and secretarial/administrative support.
Flexibility:
In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs, some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
