Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will have the opportunity to:
1. Develop in-depth knowledge of the impact of stroke on the brain
2. Develop skills in assessment of patients following stroke and expand your existing knowledge of neuropsychological evaluation more broadly.
3. Develop your skills in neuropsychological formulation and planning treatment
4. Develop your ability to develop others and disseminate psychological knowledge and skills
The post holder will join a large, expanding and dynamic department of Physical Health Psychologists and Neuropsychologists. This comes with chances for shared learning and development as well as the opportunity to influence psychologically-informed initiatives across the Trust.
To provide high quality specialist Neuropsychology services to patients following stroke as a part of the services offered by the Neuropsychology Department.
The post holder will be expected to deliver specialist neuropsychological assessment and interventions; psychological assessment and therapy and offer advice and consultation on patient's psychological care to all multidisciplinary colleagues, to patient families, and to other significant carers.
The post involves working with full clinical autonomy within professional guidelines within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.
The post requires giving feedback to acute survivors of stroke and their families and working with them in a rehabilitative context toward recovery in an inpatient hospital setting.
The post involves supporting the psychological distress that comes with that process including coping with physical, psychological and cognitive challenges.
It also involves dealing with complex behavioural changes that occur as a result of stroke and the psychological effect this also has on family members.
The role involves providing psychological and neuropsychological therapy as appropriate to individual patients and their families; and as such involves the hearing, working with and processing of high levels of psychological distress and emotional and physical pain.
