Hybrid (mainly remote with occasional days in central Bristol office)
We're looking to recruit a chemist with teaching experience to collaborate with academics, collaborators and developers on the design of digital resources using our LabSim and Smart Worksheet technology.
This role is a great opportunity for an early career scientist with an interest in digital technology and who is looking to move into the private sector. It requires excellent communication and organisational skills as well as creativity, attention to detail and the ability to follow style and pedagogical guidelines.
Duties and responsibilities
* Create, engaging, pedagogically robust and scientifically accurate designs that will be turned into digital learning activities by our development team.
* Coordinate with subject matter experts and academic collaborators to define requirements for scientifically rigorous content.
* Research new and unfamiliar areas of science using a variety of sources.
* Use output from collaborators to author design documents for: Smart Worksheets, interactive components, and imagery.
* Collaborate with and provide day-to-day guidance to developers as to the scientific requirements of content being developed, including defining appropriate validation and grading rules, and question dependencies.
* Ensure all content has thorough content QA, and issues identified are addressed as required.
* Document and record work in a clear and logical manner that can be shared internally and externally.
* Stay informed about the latest features and functionalities of the Smart Worksheet technology.

* Maintain accurate records and be prepared to feed back regularly on progress to the rest of the team

Person Specification
Education
* Degree in Chemistry or closely related subject
Experience
* Experience in teaching or instruction, preferably in a chemistry context (e.g. teaching assistant, tutoring, lab instruction).
* Familiarity with how learning technology is utilised in the Higher Education sector.
* Familiarity with different pedagogical approaches and learning theories.
* Experience in designing inclusive and accessible learning materials to support diverse learners.
Skills
* Chemistry knowledge: Strong understanding of fundamental chemistry concepts and principles.
* Instructional design: Ability to apply instructional design principles to create effective and engaging learning experiences.
* Technology proficiency: Comfortable using digital tools and technology, with a willingness to learn new software.
* Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage authoritatively with academics and developers around the specifications of projects.
* Creativity: Able to generate innovative ideas for presenting complex chemistry concepts in an accessible and engaging way.
* Attention to detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in learning materials.
* Organisation: Strong organisational and time management skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
* Time management: Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines and communicate progress against those deadlines.
* Accessibility: Familiarity with accessibility standards in digital learning.
