The team at Elizabeth Casson House, an 8-bed female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), is looking for a compassionate and skilled nurse to join our team of enthusiastic individuals dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of our patients.

Our ward has recently undergone a comprehensive refurbishment to provide an updated and modernised space for our patients. The renovation includes fresh, calming aesthetics and improved functionality, creating a more welcoming and therapeutic atmosphere. Within the newly refurbished unit, we have a dedicated sensory room. This tranquil space offers a range of sensory experiences such as lighting, sounds, textures, and colours. It's a vital resource for promoting relaxation, self-regulation, and emotional well-being among our patients.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve clinically leading and managing a team of staff nurses and healthcare assistants. Supporting the Ward Manager with some operational duties and help develop and maintain clinical standards.
The successful candidate will be a registered Mental Health or Learning Disability nurse, with experience in Psychiatric Intensive Care, Learning Disabilities/challenging behaviour, Acute Inpatient Nursing, Place of Safety, and/or Crisis Home Treatment.
You will be able to demonstrate a capacity for clinical excellence, have a high level of emotional resilience, and be able to support the ward with developing and enhancing services.
We are keen to develop our nurses, so training opportunities will be available and supported. Rotational posts would also be considered for those wanting to experience working in different settings.
Callington Road Hospital consists of different units supporting a wide variety of mental ill-health, whereby wards are able to support one another in emergency situations. It is easily accessible, and there is also free parking for staff on-site.

1. Clinical Practice Management
To carry out clinical practice within the designated clinical areas, ensuring that high-quality evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, interventions, and evaluations for patients are provided.
2. Teaching, Education & Health Promotion
To use own specialist skills, knowledge, and resources to provide mentoring opportunities for staff within designated areas and promote positive attitudes towards mental health.
3. Continuing Professional Development
To maintain and develop professional knowledge, skills, and expertise to ensure that practice reflects best practice, remains evidence-based, and is current and responsive to meet changing patient and NHS service needs.
4. Finance and Workforce

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Substantial experience and band 5 level
* Experienced in the prevention and management of violence and aggressions evidence
* Able to undertake clinical supervision, appraisals, mentorship, teaching, and
* Significant relevant experience as a clinician, able to undertake thorough risk
* Demonstrate effective leadership (motivation, initiative, change management)
* Knowledge of the NMC's 'The Code': Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics
Desirable
* Post registration training in an area relevant to caring for adults with acute MH problems
* Completed a relevant course on teaching and assessing in clinical practice
* Experience of managing other staff
* Able to evidence successfully providing formal training to others supporting students
