The Environmental Manager's role is to develop, implement, and manage systems that will promote, improve, and embed environmental protection across Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) sites and operations.
This role will involve providing direction, specialist advice, and support to managers and colleagues across the Service, to help ensure AF&RS achieves its environmental aims, statutory responsibilities, legal compliance, and sector-specific initiatives.
You will develop and project-manage a programme of environmental initiatives and improvements which contribute towards AF&RS' carbon and energy reduction targets, service-wide efficiency, cost savings, income generation, and improved workplaces.
This role has 5 key areas of responsibilities. These include:
1. Environmental Management and Legal Compliance
2. Procurement
3. Facilities Management
4. Environmental, Energy & Sustainability Initiatives
5. Project and Budget Management
Minimum Requirements:
1. Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification in an environmental subject or equivalent.
2. Evidence of continuous professional development.
3. Membership of a relevant professional body such as IEMA, EMA, IES, or CIBSE.
4. Comprehensive and up-to-date working knowledge of legislation, statutory requirements, and best practices relating to environmental impacts and management.
5. Significant post-qualification senior experience within the field of environmental management.
6. Proven track record of developing, implementing, and managing a wide range of projects simultaneously, which deliver quality outcomes.
7. Experience of developing and implementing policies, plans, and procedures.
8. A high level of numeracy, able to undertake detailed data analysis, produce statistical reports, and develop and manage budgets, and good IT skills.
9. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both orally and in writing.
10. Able to set own priorities, exercise initiative, work to deadlines, and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
11. An aptitude for influencing and negotiating in challenging circumstances, with the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with others to achieve objectives.
12. Able to drive with a full current valid driving licence, or ability to arrange suitable alternative transport to travel to various work locations.
Desirable:
1. PRINCE 2 Project Management Foundation / Practitioner certificate(s) or equivalent.
2. Technical working knowledge of low carbon technologies, Building Management Systems, Mechanical and Electrical services in non-domestic buildings.
3. Experience of environmental management within a Fire & Rescue Service or similar.
4. Experience of working in the public sector, including energy and utility procurement.
