Due to significant growth and new contract wins, OCU Services, (part of the wider OCU Group) has a new opportunity for Senior Quantity Surveyor's to come and join based in Iver, Reading or Shinfield as well as other key locations across the UK.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will lead the cost management and contractual aspects of projects, providing expertise and guidance to ensure successful project delivery. This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in quantity surveying, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion. Senior Quantity Surveyors play a crucial role in maximizing project profitability while maintaining high standards of quality and client satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Cost Management:
* Lead the preparation of accurate cost estimates and detailed project budgets for projects.
* Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle, identifying cost-saving opportunities and managing variances.
* Provide strategic advice on cost planning and procurement strategies to optimize project outcomes.
* Manage the preparation, negotiation, and administration of construction contracts, including variations, claims, and disputes.
* Ensure that contracts are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as client specifications.
* Provide guidance and support to project teams on contractual matters, resolving issues in a timely and efficient manner.
* Oversee the tendering process, including the preparation of tender documents, evaluation of bids, and selection of suppliers and subcontractors.
* Negotiate contract terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve favorable outcomes for the project.
* Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
* Develop and implement cost control measures to ensure that projects are delivered within budgetary constraints.
* Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts for project stakeholders, highlighting key cost drivers and variances.
* Analyze project performance against budgetary targets and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
* Identify and assess risks associated with projects, including cost overruns, delays, and contractual disputes.
* Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of risks on project outcomes.
* Provide leadership and guidance to project teams in managing risks effectively throughout the project lifecycle.
* Mentor and coach junior quantity surveyors, providing guidance on best practices and professional development opportunities.
* Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, encouraging teamwork and knowledge sharing.
* Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence in all aspects of quantity surveying.
Skills and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field.
* Chartered status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS/CICES) is essential.
* Extensive experience in quantity surveying, including proven track record of managing complex construction projects.
* Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
* Proficiency in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office suite.
* Analytical mindset with the ability to solve problems and make informed decisions.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
