Home Office Security is responsible for ensuring robust physical security solutions are in place to protect Home Office buildings, staff and assets. The contract support manager plays an important role within this, ensuring effective security guarding at Home Office buildings across the UK. This is an important, varied and interesting role covering a variety of tasks which has a considerable effect on the day-to-day operation of the Department's buildings. There is a high degree of reactive tasks and travel associated with this post, therefore flexibility, communications and prioritising are key requirements. Due to the range of tasks the applicant will be involved with relating to finance, administration, commercial and Security issues, there are regular opportunities to develop existing or new skills. Job description This role consists of a mixture of office-based duties and travel to several other sites around the UK, including for compliance checks. Your role will be to provide effective operational management to Security Teams in Leeds and Glasgow as well as contract sites around the UK and to give operational support to your senior managers. You will be working closely with Home Office Security teams, Contract partners and other stakeholders to ensure that Physical Security provisions of Home Office buildings are being met, while ensuring Security Officers have the required guidance, and understanding needed, to maintain effective security and protect assets and equipment. The role will also involve covering the existing Security Manager (at Leeds) during their absence. The post holder will be working from both a laptop and a mobile phone. The post is ideally suited to individuals who are prepared to work flexibly, is able to work and travel on their own and who can deliver at pace. Responsibilities Provide day-to-day remote Line Management to two staff based in Glasgow, with monthly site visits. Support Security Team Line Management duties at Leeds, and assist Security Officers and Supervisors when Site Manager is unavailable. Support the operational running of Security Guarding contracts around the UK, with regular site visits. Support the Contract Management Team on tasks, visits and admin. Establish and maintain good working relationships with Internal and external stakeholders. Create, maintain, and implement site specific operational guidance, for officers to follow. Support Senior Managers with continuous improvement of performance, delivery of service and support change. Provide on-call support to sites out-of-hours, working with other stakeholders to provide the required assistance. You will also be expected to carry out any other duties and tasks within the scope of your grade as required by your management team. Working pattern Due to the nature of the role, this post is available on a full-time basis only with shift working patterns, of a rolling rota inclusive of weekend and bank holiday working. With this role comes on-call expectations, of around 50% of the year out of normal business hours for which an allowance is payable. Successful candidate will need to be able to attend for all shifts including early starts, late night finishes, and overnight shifts. These shifts may be outside of public transport operating hours. This role is primarily office-based (base location or on site visits) however where possible and subject to business needs, some limited home-based working may be available to be agreed with line manager. Travel Due to the nature of the work, travel to other sites is a key requirement for this role with use of public transport or a hire car due to location. Applicants must have a full valid UK manual/automatic driving licence. The post holder will be expected to undertake weekly site visits (across the UK including Scotland and Wales (at least monthly) and Northern Ireland (typically every couple of months)) with overnight stays when needed, from the base location of Waterside Court, Leeds. Training Training will be provided to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to cover the various aspects of physical, electronic and operational security and Contract Management. Person specification Essential criteria Full valid UK manual/automatic driving licence. Must be proactive, and able to manage own time and priorities, in a fast-paced and at times highly pressured environment. Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build good relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at every level within the organisation. Good organisational skills, and the ability to develop and implement effective administrative processes. Experience of using Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, Outlook, and the ability to use MS Teams for both audio and video calls. Willingness to work towards other skills or qualifications required for the role. Desirable criteria Experience of working within a Security environment with Line Management experience and remote management of staff. Experience of Contract Management or project management work including dealing with conflict situations and working towards resolutions.
