Following the previous post holder progressing to a new role within the Trust, the vital post of Divisional Director of Operations for Medicine & Long-Term Conditions is now available. As the lead Division for the provision of Urgent & Emergency Care, you will be joining a Division with a strong ambition to improve care and outcomes for their patients. The Division has delivered:
1. A brand new £40M UECC having opened in March 2023.
2. The Performance Recovery Award for improvements across urgent & emergency care at the 2024 HSJ Awards.
3. Consistently nationally upper quartile 4-hour Emergency Access Standard since February 2021.
4. The best timeliness of ambulance handovers within the West Midlands for 28 of the past 48 months, with more than 90% of crews being offloaded within 30 minutes.
5. Consistently upper decile rates of same day emergency care for medical patients.
6. Consistently within the lowest decile nationally for LoS and the proportion of long stay patients.
7. Reduction in iatrogenic and delay related harm has enabled a Trust wide reduction in mortality HSMR fell from 107 to below 100.
8. GIRFT metrics (GIRFT Emergency Medicine Index, GIRFT Acute Medicine Index and GIRFT Acute Medicine Index - over 75s) place the Trust within the top decile nationally.
9. 3rd most improved rates of staff advocacy nationally, based on Staff Survey Results between 2020 & 23. This included a 96% response rate to the Survey from Staff within ED.

The post of Divisional Director of Operations is a crucial leadership role within the Trust. The Divisional Directors of Operations work alongside their clinical Divisional Directors, Divisional Directors of Nursing and Care Group management teams to lead their respective Divisions. As standing members of the Trust Management Committee, post-holders will both be responsible for services within their own Division, and also play an active role in Trust-wide decision-making. Candidates will need to show professional leadership, strategic knowledge and experience they will need to foster a culture which values continuing professional development, compassionate and inclusive leadership, and which strives for excellence in the delivery of patient care. They must actively lead by example, in line with the Trust's values of Respect, Compassion, Professionalism and Teamwork.
The Divisional Director of Operations posts are Agenda for Change Band 9 and participate in the Trust's Director on Call rota.
