The Main Operating Department at St Richards Hospital is looking for enthusiastic Band 6 Theatre Practitioners (either ODP or RGN) who can undertake the role of an anaesthetic and scrub practitioner to work in our busy Orthopaedic theatres and to join our friendly and dynamic Department as part of our senior clinical team.

Main duties of the job
The Senior Theatre Practitioner will undertake the management of the theatre unit on a day-to-day basis in the absence of/or in conjunction with the Lead Theatre Practitioner and to have continuing responsibility for the effective management of their allocated theatres/area of responsibility. In addition, the post holder will provide clinical and professional leadership within this area, ensuring effective support of colleagues to plan, monitor and evaluate skills in the delivery of appropriate care for perioperative patients.
Provide a quality service with responsibility for patient safety and standards of care, ensuring the provision of evidence-based care by being a role model providing specialist knowledge within theatre practice.
You will work as part of a team supporting and developing colleagues by mentoring, assessing their skills, and being a preceptor to newly qualified staff as appropriate.

Job responsibilities
Clinical:
* To act as an expert practitioner demonstrating specialist knowledge, skills, and expertise within the area of work (Main theatre, Recovery or DSU) and within the context of changing health care provision.
* Work clinically developing/implementing evidence-based practice within the designated clinical area of expertise in conjunction with Lead Practitioners, Theatre Manager, and Matron. Ensure a multi-professional focus, have the ability to facilitate, initiate, manage, and evaluate change in practice to improve quality of care.
* In conjunction with Lead Practitioners, ensure that a supportive teaching and learning environment is in place within their area on a day-to-day basis.
* In conjunction with Lead Practitioners, ensure that all staff work to their required level of clinical and professional competence whilst adhering to their NMC and HPC professional codes of conduct. Ensure all staff are developed to attain competence as highlighted at appraisal.
* In conjunction with Lead Practitioners, ensure that quality of patient care is assured by involvement in the implementation, maintenance, and development of:
High Impact Interventions,
The 6 steps to Safer Surgery initiative including WHO checklist audits,
Contribute to the development of theatre policies,
NICE guidance.
* Ensure that all clinical environments reflect a high standard of cleanliness and be proactive in response to any issues raised through cleaning audits, infection control audits, or patient environment inspections.

Person Specification
* Recognised Theatre Qualification RGN/ODP
* Able to demonstrate current skills in anaesthetics
* Certificated leadership course
* Recognised Mentorship qualification or equivalent
* Experience working at Band 6 level
* Scrub/anaesthetic experience
