Environmental Health Officer - Housing Enforcement
Full time: 36 hours per week, Fixed Term Contract to 31st March 2025
Salary: £38,931-£47,745 per annum
Bromley in the South East of London has a good balance between the challenges of an inner London Authority and a District Council, with a mix of areas. We are London's largest Borough geographically and cover densely urban areas in the north through to green belt countryside in the South.
In this role you will be responsible for improving housing standards, making a difference to the quality and security of tenant's lives and wellbeing through:
1. Inspecting housing defects.
2. Undertaking comprehensive risk assessments of hazards.
3. Taking appropriate remedial action through investigation, engagement, and enforcement.
You will require knowledge of relevant legislation relating to Housing and Environmental Health and a good understanding of building construction and housing defects. Establishing good working relationships with tenants, landlords, managing agents, contractors, the London Fire Brigade, and other Council Officers is important, as well as effective communication and negotiation skills.
This role will predominantly focus on single occupation within the private and social landlord sector but may also include work relating to HMOs, cladding, tall building defects, and Mobile Homes as the service requires. You will be authorised to undertake a range of enforcement actions and, where necessary, you will be required to present evidence in court.
