Line of Service Internal Firm Services Industry/Sector Not Applicable Specialism IFS - Finance Management Level Director Job Description & Summary Leadership of and responsibility for: Strategic financial planning Driving and delivering our overall strategic financial plans across the totality of the firm’s operations, P&L account and balance sheet, including short term forecasting, budgeting and longer term three year plans. Providing commercial support to the business at all levels, providing challenge as well as acting as a trusted sounding board. Budgeting, forecasting and management reporting Driving the annual budgeting and forecasting processes for the UK firm’s P&L and optimising the result from revenue to distributable profit. Providing financial transparency for internal stakeholders, identifying key levers and actions and managing financial expectations. Recommending on likely period outturn and affordability of firmwide business decisions including salary increases, bonus levels, headcount levels and centrally-funded investment. Treasury and balance sheet management Management of the firm’s balance sheet and cash flows, including strategic modelling and recommendations around working capital, bank debt and facilities and partner capital needs, partner distributions, and TPM considerations. Maintaining ongoing relationships with the firm’s bankers and oversight over the management of cash held and foreign exchange exposures. Financial control and external reporting Maintaining financial control and discipline across the firm, delivering accurate internal and external financial reporting, including audited statutory financial statements for all PwC UK entities and FRC related Operational Separation and other associated regulatory reporting. Ensuring ongoing close coordination and liaison with the Middle East and Channel Island firms for purposes of the overall UK alliance relationships. Oversight of LoS Commercials via CFAOs and Finance Business Partnering teams A member of the CFAO core leadership team, the Head of Finance works closely with the Firm’s CFAO and LoS CFAOs to help oversee both LoS and firmwide financial and commercial management and provides feedback and challenge to LoS and functions throughout the annual cycle. Continued evolution of the finance function within the larger Business Solutions context: Ongoing transformation and service evolution Driving ongoing business transformation and evolution of the finance team. Finance’s own continued evolution means that onshore staff are now largely qualified finance professionals of manager grade or above, with responsibility for delivering expert advice to support the business in an increasingly standardised way. Transactional activity is largely delivered via Integrated Services, including via offshore delivery models. However, there remains further opportunities to streamline, simplify and standardise finance business processes and activities across the firm. Finance systems Work is currently underway to identify and select the appropriate systems landscape to replace our finance system, GFS, with delivery expected to span FY26-7. The role therefore provides a key further opportunity to help shape the firm’s ongoing finance systems and associated support going forward. Business Solutions Exec member The Head of Finance is a core member of the Business Solutions Executive which governs and drives the firm’s overall efforts in delivering centralised business services across the firm. Other UK responsibilities The Head of Finance also represents the firm's financial interests on a broad range of committees and groups. Areas include: investment decision making, partner annuities, treasury strategy, the firm’s Internal Audit Issues Committee (which monitors the implementation of Internal Audit recommendations), overseeing financial related Enterprise Risk Management processes, acting as a key liaison point with the trustees of the firm’s legacy defined benefit pension schemes and acting as a trustee of the firm’s staff and partner life assurance trusts. Given the broad remit at the heart of the firm, the Head of Finance is also a key member and current leader of the firm’s Business Continuity response plans. Global responsibilities The Head of Finance holds a finance role for both ETIC and SATIC, and sits on the board of the S& Holdings Parent company and S&H (Guernsey) Limited German pensions SPV. Network Operations Committee role, and role in the global oversight of the Book of Shared Services. Routine work with the NLT CFAOs to coordinate financial matters and provide key input to strategic financial issues. Specific requirements and commitment The core skills and attributes necessary for the role include: Leadership skills, senior stakeholder management and the ability to operate as part of a senior team. P&L management and financial reporting experience. Commercial acumen, problem solving and decision making abilities. Capable of seeing the bigger picture and striking the balance between protecting the bottom line, whilst also being pragmatic and fair and looking after our staff and reputation.
