Hamilton Specialist Referrals is a purpose built state-of-the-art veterinary hospital which provides the latest in cutting edge, specialist treatments for cats and dogs, supported by an exceptional rehabilitation and physiotherapy facility. As Team Leader, you will also guide and line manage our Neurology Nurses & VCAs, with the support of our Nurse Manager.
As part of our neurology team, your general duties will include:
1. Providing support to the neurology department and being a point of contact to clients under the care of the neurology department, including organising admits and discharges.
2. Providing nursing care and ensuring neurology patients receive gold standard care.
3. Maintaining resources required by the neurologists including equipment and stock.
4. Communicating with the workflow coordinator to ensure smooth running of the neurology caseload.
5. Train and support junior members of staff with neurology kit and equipment.
6. Preparing and monitoring patients undergoing investigations or surgery, as well as recovering patients and handing over to ward RVNs.
7. Pricing and paperwork, such as updating relevant SOPs and ensuring all treatments have been charged correctly.
8. Line manage a small team of RVNs and VCAs within the Neurology & Rotating teams.
Our Neurology RVN role provides the opportunity to spend time in the prep area, one of three theatres, wards and our Imaging suite which Includes a 16-slice CT scanner, 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, Fluoroscopy Machine, Separate Radiography and Ultrasound room. You will see a wide variety of emergency and routine caseloads.

Experience and qualifications
1. Qualified RVN with RCVS registration.
2. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Ability to work collaboratively.
4. Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to patient safety.
5. Previous experience in a referral hospital and/or of neurological cases would be ideal.
6. Comfortable leading, delegating and organising a team.
7. Leadership experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
Working Pattern
A full time position covers 40 hours per week, across 4 days. There is a 1 in 6 weekend rota (Sat & Sun), and you would ordinarily work 2 bank holidays per year. Shift times during the week are 9hrs 15mins, and typically fall between 07:30-20:00 on a mixture of early or late shifts. This is a 12 month fixed term contract position, however we may have scope to discuss a permanent position at the end of the initial contract, subject to staffing numbers and business levels at the time.
