Job Description
Our client is a reputable engineering firm, headquartered in Leeds. They have opened an exciting opportunity for a Class 1 HGV Driver and General Operations Assistant to join their transport team.
Hours of work are 8am to 4:30 pm Monday to Thursday; 6am to 2pm on Fridays + Travel Allowances + Overtime
(The pay rate is £15.63 per hour + any unsociable hours are paid at increased rates + allowances for any overnights etc).
Some of the role and responsibilities:
• Carry out driving & related duties involved with the carriage of heavy goods to & from Leeds to their client locations. Ensuring driving is carried out in a safe & efficient manner, in full compliance with road traffic regulations.
• Oversee the safe unloading of vehicles at customer premises, ensuring PoD’s are signed & returned without delay.
• Check the load security & weight distribution according to the latest safe working practices before setting out & after each drop.
• As required, & appropriately trained, works mobile equipment to load &/or unload vehicles.
• Good knowledge of UK geography with a demonstrated track record following best practices for fuel efficient driving.
• Ensures vehicles are in safe condition, with daily checks completed before use. Actively takes responsibility for keeping vehicle clean & tidy.
• Update documents relating to the carriage of products.
• Comfortable assisting with adhoc duties in the warehouse and office as required. Update documentation relating to the carriage of products.
Relevant skills and experience:
• HGV driving skills – Class 1.
• CPC.
• Comfortable working in a flexible, results oriented, team environment.
• Experienced working in an engineering firm highly desired.
• Able to read written instructions & record accurately work carried out.
• Knowledge of EHS requirements, in a warehouse/distribution environment.
Ideally you will be experienced with either steel or very heavy goods (the steel can be up to 15ft long, and there can be about 25-40 beams on the wagon).
