Employment Senior Associate - Education Sector | 5+ PQE | National Law Firm | Birmingham
BCL Legal is excited to assist a national law firm in recruiting a Senior Associate to join them, focusing on Employment law for the Education sector, based in Birmingham. This is a permanent, full-time position offering flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options.
The Role:
As a Senior Associate in the Employment team, you will:
- Provide pragmatic, sector-focused employment advice to schools and academies on a broad range of issues.
- Advise on contentious matters, including Employment Tribunal cases, from preparation of Claim/Response to advocacy at Preliminary and Full Hearings.
- Draft contracts, policies, and procedures, ensuring they meet the specific needs of clients in the education sector.
- Offer guidance on union issues, industrial action, and negotiating changes to terms and conditions in a unionised context.
- Advise on TUPE matters, including academy transfers and general transfer issues.
- Provide advice on disciplinary investigations, grievance procedures, redundancy programmes, flexible working, and maternity/paternity rights.
- Contribute to business development, identifying and pursuing new opportunities for the firm.
- Participate in public speaking engagements at conferences and other events, demonstrating your expertise in the sector.
- Write articles and blog posts for sector publications, as well as firm materials.
- Supervise and mentor junior members of the team, ensuring high standards of work.
- Contribute to marketing efforts, including assisting in seminars, training programmes, and updating precedents.
About You:
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Experience in both contentious and non-contentious employment law, with a strong interest in the education sector.
- A proactive approach to business development and a passion for advising clients in the education sector, particularly schools and academies.
- An enquiring mind and attention to detail, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage your time effectively.
- A practical and commercial approach to providing clear, concise advice to clients.
- Experience in public speaking and contributing to sector publications or materials.
- A commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion, and upholding professional standards and ethics.
