We have an exciting opportunity for a Financial Account to join our Finance team on a 6 month fixed-term contract.
The Financial Accountants are responsible for the provision of management accounting; financial compliance and financial control services, including budgeting, reporting, VAT compliance, balance sheet reconciliations and analysis for UK, Luxembourg, Ireland and the USA. The role also involves providing commercial analysis and advice to support the Global Business Services Directors. This includes month-end analysis and review, support through the budget process as well as ad-hoc queries and general financial analysis.
This role will also help with project work – in particular help with testing, reviewing processes and updating key reconciliations in preparation for the implementation of a new finance system (3E).
The successful candidate will join a team of two other Financial Accountants, who report into the UK Financial Controller. You’ll be part of the wider Finance team which is spread throughout most of Simmons & Simmons’ international offices. Therefore, there is a requirement for teamwork and sharing of information within this team to ensure a consistent approach is adopted.
What will you do:
1. You will be responsible for the timely preparation of the monthly management accounts for all groups within the UK; Luxembourg, Ireland and the USA.
2. You will be responsible for the review of all monthly entries and includes producing detailed transactional and summary reports to send to budget holders.
3. You will be responsible for reconciling the balance sheets monthly.
4. The role will have responsibility for specific Business Services functions which will require a good understanding of all budgeted and actual expenditure to monitor variances.
5. You will hold monthly meetings with the budget holders to review variances and identify any issues – ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary.
6. As part of financial accounting; compliance and control, you will have responsibility for the following: fixed assets – accounting for additions and depreciation, including budgeting; review of Inter-office posting; preparation of the quarterly VAT returns; cashflow reporting; project accounting; and you will assist in the preparation of the statutory accounts information and will prepare analysis required for the annual audit.
7. Assist with testing, reviewing processes and updating key reconciliations as part of the implementation of a new ERP system.
8. This role is responsible for providing support to particular Business Services functions in the preparation of their annual plans and budgets.
9. This role will involve a review of assumptions made, discussions with budget holders and the preparation of summary analysis and commentary.
10. This role is responsible for co-ordinating the provision of the necessary information, analysis, explanation and support to the directors in managing their departments. This individual will act as a main point of contact within Finance for the specific Business Service functions.
What we are looking for:
1. Qualified in a recognised professional accounting qualification (ideally with 2 years post qualification experience)
2. University degree (2.2 or above)
3. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills is essential (both formulae and working logic)
4. Good working knowledge of Microsoft office products
5. Knowledge of General Ledger and reporting systems
6. Strong technical accounting knowledge – maintains awareness of changes to UK GAAP and understands the consequences of such changes.
7. Strong written skills with documents produced clearly presented
8. Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to work with remote team members
9. Able to prioritise workload to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines
