The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Seafront and Parks Ranger to join our Seafront, Open Spaces and Natural Environment Team. The Seafront Team are specifically responsible for the operational delivery and day to day management of Weston Seafront.
In this role, you will be required to carry out a range of activities including monitoring the seafront and beach area to provide a clean and safe visitor environment as well as undertaking routine inspections of parks and open spaces. Working within and helping to develop procedures and routines the post holders will support the front facing service delivery of Seafronts, Parks and Open Spaces. The tasks vary depending on the season and time of year and will include operation of an extremely high footfall tourist destination during the summer season and undertaking routine and planned tasks during the winter.
The position is contracted for 18.5 hours per week. These hours will be spread out over the year, with the intention of a 3-day working week from April to September, and a 2-day working week from October to March. You will follow a scheduled shift pattern. The ranger team provides operational coverage seven days a week, from 07:00 to 22:00. This will include both morning and afternoon shifts, as well as working two full weekends out of every four.
Roles at this level will require a broad knowledge and understanding of the safe work processes in the specific area of work, including those for lone working. The post holder will resolve routine technical and process problems and queries, escalating the more complex to others.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond effectively to any accident, incident or near miss that may occur in a seafront environment
Work in compliance with safe systems of work including lone working
To promote safe use of the beach fronts and water areas and engage with stakeholders to facilitate the co-existence of recreational activities and events fairly and consistently
Provide or monitor a range of planned activities within an agreed programme
Assist in the enforcement of local by-laws/regulations governing the use of zoning to separate activities for general safety reasons
Apply knowledge and skills to a range of activities demonstrating understanding of the technical service area, relevant procedures, communities’ needs and guidelines
Undertake inspections of the seafront and waterside infrastructure to ensure public safety and report any remedial action required to managers
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid UK driving licence is an essential condition for this role.
The ranger team is expected to work outside predominantly, regardless of weather conditions.

Essential Criteria:
Practical work experience to give thorough understanding of the processes and practices required to deliver the service, including emergency response or first aid background
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding protocols for children and vulnerable adults
Awareness and general understanding of the service area technical protocols, regulations and relevant legislation, with specific reference to health and safety regulations
Ability to communicate effectively, work with contractors or partners and engage with the public
Ability to present all forms of evidence clearly and confidently
Ability to work without close supervision and recognise professional boundaries, to seek advice when appropriate
Desirable Criteria:
Advanced driver training
Advanced first aid training
