Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has become available for an IT Server Engineer to join the small but well established team.
The successful applicant will manage and develop the Trust's Server Storage and critical desktop infrastructure to support the critical operations and to provide and expert resource for advice on technical issues as required.
Applicants must hold a a degree level or equivalent vocational qualification in technical subjects.
If this position involves a regulated activity it will require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. The disclosure will, where appropriate to the role, include information against the Independent Safeguarding Authority barred lists for working with children, adults or both
Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, all applicants are required to cover the cost of the check. The cost of £ for an enhanced check is payable to our online provider at the time that the DBS application is submitted. Upon receipt of your DBS you will then be required to sign up to the DBS online update service.

ServiceDelivery Management
Designand implement a comprehensive range of procedures for security. Recovery andrestart (including from disaster) and incident/problem control.
Short and medium term operationalplanning and scheduling, of Infrastructure capacity for both local and offpremise infrastructure. .
Design,configuration and implementation of server infrastructure including relevantnetwork appliances.
Responsible for ensuring the ITILservice desk escalation queue is managed, and any jobs are completed by thepostholder within a timely manner. Any issues with incident escalation areraised with the IT Server and Storage manager to ensure that jobs do not breechthe specific Service Level Agreements SLAs.
Guaranteeing integrity andconfidentiality of information delivered to and sent by users in line with theTrusts and NHS policy.
Understandingrequirements of installed and planned systems, particularly in respect ofInfrastructure components, including security, characteristics of associatedhardware and software, and targets for performance and quality of service.
Communicatingeffectively using electronic, verbal and written word, as required with usersand IT staff, particularly in respect of emergencies, quality control andsupport, restrictions on or withdrawal of services, routine and unscheduledmaintenance and the introduction of major amendments to the provision ofservice such as upgrades of equipment and software.
Investigateall appropriate means to improve service levels whilst minimising investmentrequirements and recommend new or revised policies or procedures to highermanagement; implement specific improvements within scope of responsibility.
May berequired to work on own or as part of a team in the development and planning ofservice projects, by use of appropriate computer software, where required withconsideration to budgetary restraints.
Implementtraining documentation and deliver training to staff in the use of ITequipment.
SupplierManagement
Obtainingand evaluating offers from suppliers of Infrastructure equipment and otherservices for communications networks.
Monitoringand reviewing performance, throughput, availability and exceptional incidentsand proposing and implementing consequent improvements.
Liaising with suppliers technicalpersonnel about problem resolution in the event of service or componentfailure.
Periodicallyreview maintenance arrangements and SLAs to ensure that the cover in placeremains appropriate to the service, system or component.
Ensuresthat supplier access to systems is within the Trusts security policy and thatphysical access to critical areas are monitored.
Monitoringand Reporting
ImplementInfrastructure monitoring functionality across the Trust and takeresponsibility for monitoring such activity.
Makingassessments of the capacity and performance characteristics of possible andactual designs and implementations,
Capacityplanning from this data in order to ensure that appropriate action, includingtuning and acquisition is taken in a timely fashion to avoid servicedegradation or failure.
Revisingall assessments, estimates and forecasts at appropriate times during operation,including advising on the impact of possible, authorised or actual changes.
Monitoringsecurity of all systems and networks and networks and managing a proactivesecurity scheme to avoid security breaches, including and implementing andmaintaining a log in line with the Trust and NHS Digital security policy.
UsingSpreadsheet, Database and other Trust based software to support the reportingand management responsibilities.
ProblemManagement
Reportingacute / Chronic service delivery problems to the IT Manger as appropriate andto the Heads of Departments effected. so that appropriate actions can beinitiated.
Ensuringthat all IT personnel are aware of problems, potential problems and knownerrors so that they can assist in their resolution.
Satisfactoryresolution of all unresolved incidents, including provision of support indeciding immediate action, the co-ordination of investigations and proposalsfor changes and circumventions, and the initiation and monitoring of agreedremedies.
Workunder own initiative in preventing occurrence of incidents through activitiessuch as identifying suspect components, monitoring systems being developed andpreventing problems in one system being replicated in others across all TrustIT systems.
Reportand advise on the quality of services, systems and support being provided tousers, suppliers, comparing against agreements when appropriate.
Respondsto and resolves faults on IT systems.Includes support to users on Trust sites across the Trust in line withagreed SLAs.
Respondsto requests and fault reports from the organisations external customers inline with agreed SLAs.
Work withother IT Staff to document procedure and changes.
Mustensure that adequate backups are taken for all communication systems.
Takespart in IT Hardware and Software Audit when requested.
Mustensure the full account is taken of the needs for quality, security,availability, integrity and safety, utilising as appropriate specialisedtechniques, tools, methods and standards.
Withinagreed standard and policies must be competent in planning the work of teams orproject groups; must ensure that assigned resources (staff, equipment,software, services) are properly budgeted, utilised and accounted for.

1. Practical knowledge of Cloud platforms and migration of such.
