Who we're looking for
We are seeking an expert in climatology, hydrological and meteorological data to join our team and support the development of our analytical tools, parametric and other transactional capabilities. In this role, you will leverage your specialized knowledge to apply research and data effectively in various models, playing a crucial part in advancing our innovative projects and strategies.
Your expertise will be integral to driving the accuracy and effectiveness of our analytics and risk intelligence solutions, ultimately enhancing our ability to deliver sophisticated and market leading advisory and financial risk transfer products to our clients. If you have a strong background in climatology, hydrology and meteorology, with sound statistical and data analysis skills and are passionate about applying this knowledge in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment, we would love to hear from you.
What do we need you to have?
1. Demonstrable experience delivering successful science-based analytics products (data, computational and end user applications) to completion and end user satisfaction
2. At least a 2.1 undergraduate degree in Climatology, meteorology, oceanography or related subject.
3. Strong and up to date knowledge and deep interest of climatology and climate science principles
4. Strong knowledge of the key climate adaptation and mitigation agendas
5. Highly numerate, with strong statistical skills
6. Experience conducting scientific literature reviews.
7. Experience writing both technical and non-technical reports.
8. Can identify and source relevant and fit for purpose datasets to support a study.
9. Extensive experience evaluating, cleaning and analysing observational, earth observation data and/or output from numerical models (e.g., CMIP6, ERA5, MERRA-5, station data, remote sensing data).
10. Coding and technical experience with statistical and data management programs such as R / R Shiny, MATLAB, QGIS, ArcGIS.
11. Extensive programming experience in R, Python, Fortran or other languages relevant to the subjects.
12. Strong knowledge of statistics (time-series analyses, modelling distributions).
13. Strong communication skills.
14. Ability to work as part of a team, and particularly to collaborate with both subject matter specialists and non-technical professionals.
15. Desirable criteria:
* Master's or doctoral degree in a relevant subject.
* Thesis project or other published research exploring risks & impacts associated with climate change (e.g., increased frequency and severity of flooding).
* Experience building and/or evaluating probabilistic models.
* Knowledge of the insurance sector.
