Job Title: Level 3 Early Years 1:1 Support Worker (Autism Specialist)
Location: Rochdale, Lancashire
Salary: £85 - £95 per day (PAYE)
Job Type: Full-Time, Contract
We are seeking a dedicated and proficient Level 3 Early Years Teaching Assistant for 1:1 support, with a strong background in supporting children with autism, particularly those who are non-verbal. The ideal candidate will have experience using PECS and, preferably, Makaton to aid communication, although this is not essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored 1:1 support to a child with autism, focusing on their individual learning needs and developmental goals.
2. Utilize specialized communication techniques such as PECS and, if possible, Makaton, to aid in effective interaction with the child.
3. Develop and implement engaging educational activities that stimulate learning and contribute to the child's overall progress.
4. Work closely with other education professionals, including class teachers and SENCO, to ensure a cohesive approach to the child's education and well-being.
5. Monitor and record the child’s progress, adapting strategies as necessary to promote their development.
6. Encourage positive behavior and social interaction, aiding in the child's integration within the classroom environment and beyond.
7. Attend to the personal care needs of the child, if required, while maintaining their dignity and promoting independence.
8. Act as a role model, demonstrating professional and supportive behavior at all times.
Requirements:
1. A minimum of Level 3 qualification in Early Years or equivalent.
2. Proven experience in an early years setting, supporting children with autism, specifically non-verbal individuals.
3. Knowledgeable in the use of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS); experience is highly preferred.
4. Familiarity with Makaton is considered an advantage but not a requirement.
5. An active DBS check on the update service, or willingness to obtain one.
6. A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach to supporting children with SEN.
7. Strong communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with colleagues and parents.
8. The ability to work flexibly and adapt to the needs of the child and the educational setting.
