Business Area/Dept Overview
Securities Services is a leading global custodian and securities services specialist that provides multi-asset post-trade and asset servicing solutions for buy and sell-side market participants, corporates, and issuers.
The Banking Services and Operations (BSO) Department delivers services in three areas:
1. Local Custody, which provides Clearing, Settlement, Cash, Corporate Actions, Income, and Tax services for UK and international clients. These are mainly Institutional Investors (Asset owners, Asset Managers…), Financial intermediaries (Broker Dealers, Global custodians…), and other BNP Paribas branches.
2. Global Custody, which provides the same range of services to Institutional investors and asset managers who open a Global Custody account in the UK to hold assets in over 90 countries.
3. Broker Dealer Outsourcing, which provides Back-office outsourcing services of Settlement, Financial accounting, and Transaction reporting for Mid-size Brokers.
Job Purpose
The position is for a Trainee within a team based in Glasgow. The first objective of the role is to learn, understand, and develop key skills required to support key Global & Local Custody activities. Once training has been provided and key skills have been learned, there will be potential for the Trainee to provide practical support and assistance across many Global & Local Custody tasks.
This role is part of a team providing direct support and contact with clients and internal teams in relation to Global and Local Custody UK activity on all markets. They will assist in ensuring that queries and issues are responded to in a timely and appropriate fashion along with completing all aspects of the daily checklist.
The selected candidate will cross-train and may work within the teams of Reconciliations, Tax, Settlements, Corporate actions, and Income. They provide direct support to clients including operational, market, and processing knowledge. They will also ensure that any client and non-client facing tasks are performed in an accurate and timely manner and ensure adherence to all processes and procedures.
Core accountabilities of role
1. Query management – after the appropriate training period, ensuring these are answered in an accurate and timely manner.
2. Be responsible for accurate and proactive production of own work.
3. Completion of tasks in line with procedures.
4. Adopting a proactive approach to issues and events that may have significant impacts for the clients.
5. Adopting a proactive approach to improve the current processing of work.
6. Supporting the Team to ensure clients receive a desired level of service or better.
7. Ensuring daily reconciliation and clearance of cash and stock items.
8. Ensuring all key controls and assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner.
9. Holding/attending meetings/calls/due diligence/service review with clients/internal parties/external parties with support from relevant colleagues.
10. Liaising with clients and internal parties to resolve any issues pertaining to custody activity.
11. Ensure key controls are updated and maintained.
12. Support with the updating and maintaining of procedures and propose changes/improvements when appropriate.
13. Build strong relationships with all parties and work together effectively.
14. Ad-hoc projects as required.
15. Ensuring the escalation of problems to group head/department management.
