The University of Leicester is seeking a Research Associate to join our prestigious Department of Respiratory Sciences. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational research on host-microbe interactions, particularly within the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre's Respiratory and Infection theme. Your work will involve using ex vivo materials from observational studies and clinical trials to explore in vitro mechanistic challenge models, host inflammatory responses, and metagenomic analysis. You will take ownership of specific aspects of a broader research programme, working both independently and collaboratively to meet defined milestones. Your contributions will include experimental design, data interpretation, and the dissemination of findings through high-impact publications and international conferences. In addition, you will actively contribute to the development of new research methodologies and support early-career researchers within the team. This is an exciting role for a dedicated researcher looking to drive innovation and influence the global understanding of respiratory health challenges. About you We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in a relevant field, with demonstrable expertise in virology and immunology, including analytical techniques such as flow cytometry. You should have a track record of publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals and exhibit proven problem-solving skills within complex research environments. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will collaborate with both internal teams and external stakeholders. You should also be committed to your professional development and demonstrate the ability to guide and mentor colleagues. While independence is key, you should thrive in a collaborative team setting and show enthusiasm for contributing to multidisciplinary research.
