We are seeking motivated nurses with a passion for excellence within the delivery of patient care to join our General Medical team on Ward 7B.
As a Staff Member on Ward 7B, you will have opportunities to care for a range of patients with a variety of complex conditions and additional needs, supported by highly trained professionals.
As the specialty of General Medicine for Older People, we provide excellent care to our patients and are supported by our Multidisciplinary team of Health Care Assistants, Nurses, two Geriatric Consultants, therapy teams, and Nurse Specialists. All disciplines work closely to ensure our teams are fully supported to deliver high-quality care.

Main duties of the job
* To be responsible, in association with the team leader, for the formulation and implementation of individual patient care plans.
* To participate in the holistic assessment of patients, formulate and review individual patient care plans, and act as ‘named nurse’ or associate for a group of patients from admission to discharge as determined by the Ward Manager.
* To commence and participate in research/special projects as directed by the ward manager.
* To contribute to the setting, maintaining, and monitoring of standards of care within the ward.
* Help to ensure that all equipment is in safe working order in conjunction with the department equipment controller.
* Internal rotation onto night duty and twilight shifts is required.
* To assist in the promotion of effective communication with all ward staff and other departments as required.
* Promote the safeguarding of vulnerable patients in line with national and local policy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Maintain appropriate NMC registration.
* To be aware of and practice professionally in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and The Scope of Professional Practice.
* To ensure fulfillment of the requirements for professional updating and maintain a personal record for future registration purposes.
* Ensure that nursing care is appropriate, provided, and consistent with clinical guidelines.
* Implement and evaluate programmes of care to meet the needs of patients and undertake all forms of care within the clinical environment.
* In accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, actively participate in the prevention and control of infection within the capacity of their role.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
* Ensure patient records are kept up to date and accurate, recording is done in line with Trust policies and procedures.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
* To participate in the teaching of students and the in-service training of qualified nurses and health care assistants.
LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Supervise Health Care Assistants as required.
* Supervise Junior Staff Nurses once deemed sufficiently competent and experienced in role by Ward Manager.
RESEARCH & AUDIT
* To commence and participate in research/special projects as directed by the ward manager.

* Knowledge of clinical skills required to undertake the role.
* Knowledge of current professional & clinical issues.

* Significant post-registration experience within an acute hospital setting.
Qualifications

* IV Drug Administration Certificate or Competencies.
