The Role:
Join us in this vital role where you will provide expert fire safety support and advice across the department, ensuring fire safety is inspected, managed, and maintained in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and other relevant Health and Safety legislation. You will take responsibility for identifying fire-related risks across the portfolio and oversee the necessary remedial actions, including designing work packages, conducting contract evaluations, and preparing evaluation reports. Collaborating with key stakeholders such as repairs staff, consultants, designers, and clerks of works, you will ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and the council's policies. In addition, you will manage and validate Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs), identify technical solutions for fire safety works, support investment teams in major schemes, and guide repair teams in minor works. You'll also provide expert technical support and training to housing staff, contribute to the ongoing development of fire safety strategies, and work with residents and their groups to promote best practices in fire safety.

About You:
With in-depth knowledge of housing legislation and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, you will manage fire safety across a range of building types, ensuring compliance and overseeing fire risk assessments (FRAs). Your responsibilities will include designing fire safety works, managing contracts, auditing contractor performance, and providing technical expertise to investment and repairs teams. You will also lead fire safety training, develop fire risk management processes, and liaise with external bodies such as Building Control and the Fire Service. Additionally, you’ll contribute to the development of fire safety policies, provide cost analysis and financial forecasts for projects, and ensure the Council’s fire safety strategy is implemented. Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills are essential for working with a diverse range of stakeholders and managing a varied workload.
