Position Summary
Main job functions
Managing the Laboratory function of the Company to ensure that it provides timely and accurate information to the Technical and Operations Departments. Liaising with the Purchasing function in relation to the performance of suppliers quality through the inspection of incoming goods. Be pro-active in supporting and developing improvement projects within the department.
Principle Accountabilities
Duties, Responsibilities and Key Tasks
Supervision of the Laboratory Technicians.
Ensuring that Goods received by the Company are assessed for their suitability for use in compliance with the relevant documented procedure.
Ensuring that all test methods are carried out in accordance with international standards or approved and documented procedures.
Ensuring that the hose adhesion tests required to certify our products are performed and reported in a timely manner.
Ensuring that customers and their representatives are accommodated in an appropriate manner whilst in the Laboratory.
Review and report on the performance of the Polyurethane pouring department.
Ensure that all Laboratory reports are satisfactorily completed and circulated within an appropriate timescale of the request for work.
Maintenance and monitoring of all Laboratory test data within WinSPC database and to alert relevant staff to concerning trends.
Maintaining the calibration status of all equipment used within the Laboratory.
Liaising with those requesting work to ensure a suitable methodology is defined and that timescales are agreed. Timely reporting of any deviations against these agreed plans.
Supporting the various departments of the Company in investigation, reporting and closure of corrective actions, improvement notices, incident reports and other audit findings, where appropriate.
Ensuring Laboratory staff operate safely and consistently the Low Temperature Pressurised Test Unit and Cold Temperature Laboratory Testing facilities to provide test data to support new cold application hose design.
Ensuring that the Laboratory is a safe place of work for all staff and is also maintained in an appropriate manner for visitors.
Maintaining all departmental procedures and work instructions and updating these when appropriate.
Ensuring that there is an appropriate training plan in place for the department and that appropriate records are established and maintained for all training undertaken.
Reporting departmental performance on a quarterly basis.
Carry out the job requirements in full compliance with the Code of Conduct.

Qualifications
Experience Required
Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrating success in generating improvement actions.
Exposure to ISO 9001 or similar
Working successfully with cross functional teams at all levels of an organisation
Knowledge Required
High knowledge of:
1. chemistry or materials science
2. the functions of a laboratory
3. laboratory techniques
4. laboratory equipment
5. testing methods
Qualifications / Skills Required
Degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Materials or Engineering
Ability to motivate and lead teams
Good communicator and motivator
Computer literate
