RM is the leading supplier of technology and resources to the education sector, supporting schools, teachers, and pupils across the globe—from pre-school to higher education. We work with thousands of schools across the UK each year to deliver a range of managed IT support services, infrastructure & cloud technologies, and software solutions. Additionally, our assessment software is used globally to carry out hundreds of thousands of on-screen tests and to mark millions of paper-based scripts.
The Project Management team manages a large variety of projects on behalf of RM’s customers. This role will focus primarily on our school’s technology business. Typical examples of projects include:
* Implementation of ICT infrastructure and services to new/refurbished school buildings.
* Client device refresh programmes.
* Transition from on-premise ICT services to the cloud.
* Broadband installation across a local authority or Multi Academy Trust.
* Roll-out programme for RM products and services to a group of schools.
* Internal projects to maintain/upgrade RM’s systems & infrastructure to support our range of products and services.
Responsibilities
As a Project Manager in RM, you will be working on a range of projects and programmes valued at up to £1m and lasting anything between 3 months and 2 years. The Project Manager works autonomously within the team, with the ability to take crucial commercially considered decisions regarding leading and shaping their own projects. They will matrix manage cross-functional teams of up to 20 people, pulling together resources from across the business to achieve project objectives and motivating teams to achieve combined deliverables. Working within the RM governance framework, the role holder will ensure that projects and the delivery of major customer deliverables are planned, tracked, and managed effectively and efficiently. Financial management and control is a key part of the role.
Working with our Account Management teams, the Project Manager will manage and continue to build existing customer relationships whilst also effectively responding to new business requirements, shaping and scoping the project management process and response to ensure new business wins.
There will be the need for occasional UK-based travel to customer project sites, combined with flexible working patterns to meet our customer needs. The role is field-based and open to candidates from any UK location. Flexible access is available to any of RM group’s offices to provide collaboration and meeting spaces.
It is critical that the Project Manager is commercially astute but also customer-focused, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate and influence both internally and externally with senior business stakeholders up to and including CxO level.
Experience
* A proven track record of delivering cross-functional IT infrastructure & change projects to time & budget. Experience of any of the following would be beneficial: WAN, LAN, WLAN & client device deployments; M365/Google Workspace migrations.
* Experience of sizing and defining project delivery approach based on customer requirements.
* Exceptional financial management and control skills and experience.
* Experience of working in a customer-facing role, managing relationships with & influencing senior decision makers.
* Confident communicator. Experience of communicating relevant project information to a variety of internal & external stakeholders. Able to monitor and act on customer feedback and understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
* Experience of managing 3rd party suppliers as part of project delivery.
