An exciting vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Dietitian to work within the Darwin Centre. This full-time post would ideally be suited to a specialist Dietitian looking to advance their skills and knowledge or an advanced Dietitian with relevant clinical experience.
It will be a great opportunity for an inspiring individual that wants to enhance their knowledge and skills within a young person inpatient setting.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide a highly specialist dietetic service to CYP Eating disorder patients receiving treatment from the Trust's inpatient service (Tier 4) based within the Darwin Centre.
2. To provide a dietetic clinical lead role for those YP suffering with an eating disorder within the Darwin Centre.
3. To act as a source of expertise on the dietary management of eating disorders to medical staff, therapy staff, other health professionals, GPs, and external agencies such as local community mental health teams and the dietetic department.
4. To make recommendations for the purchasing of supplements, food provided on the ward, and equipment within the budget held by the Team Manager.
5. Providing clinical supervision and training for clinical staff and students within the Darwin Centre.

Job responsibilities
1. To provide a specialist dietetic service to young people presenting with eating disorders.
2. To provide specialist advice to patients and their parents/carers with eating disorders deemed to be at high physical risk.
3. To undertake comprehensive assessments of each patient's diet and lifestyle to formulate individualised management and treatment plans ensuring optimal outcomes whilst minimising risk.
4. To be aware of and be able to identify patients at high physical risks, including the risk of refeeding syndrome and nutritional deficiencies.
5. To be aware of and able to identify patients at high psychiatric risk (e.g., of suicide) and liaise with the MDT regarding the management of risk in these patients.
6. To communicate effectively with patients and their family.
7. To work autonomously within the team.
8. To act as a resource to junior members or unqualified support staff.
9. To run teaching sessions on dietetic issues for staff, carers, and patients to aid recovery from their eating disorder.
10. To write, implement and monitor guidelines for management of patients with eating disorders.
11. To provide support and advice to the paediatric ward staff as appropriate.
12. To provide teaching to medical, nursing, and other staff on eating disorders on a regular basis.
13. To provide input for the training of student Dietitians.
14. To provide training and supervision to nursing and therapy staff.
15. To co-facilitate support groups as required.
16. To develop skills and knowledge within the field of Eating Disorders.
17. To take the lead on research and audit of the dietetic interventions of CYP Eating Disorders.
18. To implement NSF, NICE, RCP, and clinical governance legislation within Eating Disorders.
19. To contribute to the EDS and Trust clinical governance and quality agenda.
20. To liaise with the ED team and attend case conferences and CPA meetings.

* Post-registration experience in mental health or paediatrics.
