Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual, to join the Cancer, Specialist and Clinical Support Services Care Group as a Service Manager, working primarily supporting the Rheumatology service and several of our clinical support services. The post will be based predominantly at York Hospital, however, there will be a requirement to travel and work at Scarborough Hospital. The successful candidate requires excellent communication and team working skills, and will work closely with clinical and non-clinical staff on a daily basis, organising and prioritising both their own workload and that of others. They must have the ability to exercise sound judgement in relation to problem solving and prioritising, and have the ability to practice delegation, negotiation and motivation skills. Most importantly the candidate must have a flexible and patient centred approach, plus a sound understanding of NHS performance targets and management of waiting lists. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be required to: Provide management support on a daily basis. The main focus of this is to manage day to day operational issues, to ensure smooth running of all the directorate's services. Assist the Operational Service Manager in the maintenance and development of clinic timetables, junior doctor rotas, clinic templates, appointment systems and theatre scheduling. Support the Operational Service Manager in investigating and responding to patient complaints and concerns, received in an appropriate and timely manner, in accordance with Trust policy. To be responsible for the monitoring of patient pathways, including undertaking activity and waiting list monitoring, for both outpatient and inpatient patients to enable the specialty to meet access targets. You will be responsible for line managing of a team of secretarial and administrative staff. This will include a combination of acting as an appointment panel member, recruitment, conducting personal development reviews, dealing with the initial or subsequent stages of disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence and performance issues. You will be responsible for ensuring that appropriate training is delivered to staff, and that individual staff members work allocation is managed effectively and reallocated as required to best meet the needs of the service.
