Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Due to changes in funding, we have an exciting new opening for a senior specialist SLT or developmental role for an experienced specialist SLT with a special interest in stroke and neurology on our newly designed and refurbished state of the art hyper acute stroke unit (HASU) and acute stroke unit (ASU).
You would be encouraged to utilise and develop leadership skills within both the multidisciplinary team and supporting speech and language therapy colleagues on the unit and within the friendly and supportive team.

Main duties of the job
To undertake comprehensive specialist holistic assessment, diagnosis and management of acute acquired communication and swallowing impairments.
Devise SMART goals for speech and language rehabilitation, working with Speech and Language therapy assistant to deliver person centred care.
Close liaison and working with patients, families, MDT, community services and Early Supported Discharge team, representing speech and language therapy and advocating for our patients.
Provide expert clinical advice, leadership and support within the SLT team as "senior of the day".
Providing line management and supervision to junior colleagues.
Competencies in tracheostomy/videofluoroscopy/FEES are welcomed and there may be potential opportunities to undertake competencies in some of these.
There will be opportunities for quality improvement projects and service development in this role.
You will receive excellent CPD opportunities both in house and externally.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in SLT
* HCPC registered
* Membership to Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy
* Membership of appropriate clinical excellence network group(s)
Experience
* Significant clinical experience in managing complex communication needs and dysphagia at specialist/highly specialist level which are neurological in origin
* Awareness of roles of other professionals involved in care of patients on caseload
* Experience of working in multidisciplinary / multiprofessional teams
* Experience in service development / quality improvement
* Delivering Practice Supervision
* Supervision of SLT students
* Experience of delivering clinical education in area of speciality
Skills
* Ability to problem solve, negotiate, prioritize and delegate in order to manage time and resources effectively
* Alternative and Augmentative Communication knowledge & skills
