We are seeking a multidisciplinary Project Engineer to join our growing team. This role is critical to supporting the development and implementation of automated systems and prototypes that drive our innovation in cultivated meat production. What this role entails: - Working in a mixed team of engineers, biologists and chemical engineers - Build, test and maintain automation systems for cultivated meat production processes. Activities: The role is that of a 'doer', capable of working across the design process: - Developing technical requirements and design parameters. - Designing/refining mechanical, electrical, and software function prototypes components of prototypes. - Troubleshooting and optimizing their function with users in Cellular Agriculture. - Verifying and validating system performance and reliability. - Documenting procedures, results, and modifications accurately for knowledge sharing and audit purposes. - Collaborate with scientists, engineers and technicians to integrate new automation technologies in production workflows. Duties: From day to day, the role also includes activities that keep the equipment ready and safe - Conduct calibration, maintenance, and repair of automation equipment. - Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment to support innovation and team productivity. - Implement health and safety standards, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations. Selection criteria: 1) Experience - Proven experience in electromechanical product development, or process automation, or a related field, ideally within a manufacturing, biotech or engineering context. - Demonstrable interest and skills in electromechanical projects, programming, hardware assembly, and troubleshooting systems. 2) Technical Expertise Essential: - Hands-on attitude and willingness to solve problems as they arise. - Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with prototyping or fabrication techniques e.g. 3D printing technologies, metal fabrication. - Experience with programming languages such as Python, or similar. - Understanding of data acquisition and control systems, PLCs, or microprocessors/ IoT integration. - Understanding of hardware integration with software such as Labview or alternative programming means, and knowledge of communication protocols like TCP/IP, RS-232, and Modbus - Knowledge of safety protocols for working with automation systems. Desirable: - Strong mechanical, electrical, and software skills related to prototyping and automation. - Familiarity with hygienic processing, sterile operation, fermentation, bioreactor systems or medical devices. Team working and Communication: - Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams. - Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting processes and presenting findings.
