The opportunity
Exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client's dynamic and innovative team, where you will be responsible for overseeing all commercial aspects of multiple frameworks and projects covering the Midlands and South regions of the UK, ensuring these frameworks and projects deliver the expected contract margin while providing excellent and efficient service. You will play a key role as the commercial contact between the commercial manager and the existing commercial teams, along with overseeing the development of three apprentice Quantity Surveyors.
The role
This role will be based in Penketh, Warrington, Cheshire, with occasional travel between other regional offices and to various client and vendor sites. You will be entitled to a Salary of £50,000 per annum.
Dimensions
You will work with a small team to provide commercial support activities across the Technology project portfolio, typically managing up to 350 projects ranging in size from £1K to £5M.
Organisation
The role reports directly to the Commercial Manager. You will liaise closely with Technology SBU Key Account Managers, the SBU Commercial team, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Resource Managers, SI/LV Engineering Team, and clients as necessary. You will also collaborate with other SBUs as required to assist in the delivery of Group opportunity contracts.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
1. Preparation, submission, and agreement of interim valuations, variations, final accounts, and internal weekly progress reports detailing hours spent/earned.
2. Subcontract payment certificates, cost value reconciliations.
3. Full submission of all contractual notices, ensuring strict adherence.
4. Compensation Event Quotations.
5. Monitoring subcontract costs, labour allocation sheets, and project costs to ensure alignment with contract margin.
6. Use and update of internal project database to track labour, material, plant, staff, and preliminary costs.
7. Risk management: Control of risk management techniques throughout the project lifecycle.
8. Subcontract management and procurement: Subcontract orders, project tenders, and pre-contract information in collaboration with Key Account Managers.
9. Monitor material purchases to ensure they align with tender allowances where possible.
10. Project delivery: Manage the effective commercial delivery of projects in line with overall framework contract margin.
11. Keep the Framework Key Account Manager and Commercial Manager informed of any cost overruns or risks to effective project delivery.
12. Reporting and contract reviews: Production of fully substantiated reports each period for CVRs, cash flow, WIP, and threats/opportunities.
13. Undertake contract reviews and negotiate terms in line with company policies.
14. Commercial guidance and collaboration: Provide commercial guidance to project teams as needed and ensure they are always informed of the current project commercial status.
15. Offer improvement suggestions and innovation to Project Managers, Key Account Managers, and other commercial team members.
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
1. Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills.
2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Project.
4. Ability to act on own initiative.
5. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within and outside the organisation.
6. A good team player with the ability to collaborate effectively.
7. A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
8. Recent experience in a similar role is essential.
9. Experience with operational management systems (e.g., ERP) is preferred but not essential. Training will be provided as needed.
10. Actively working towards MRICS membership or holding an MRICS qualification.
11. Strong understanding of cost management, contract administration, and financial reporting.
