Job Title: Project Engineer
Location: Midlands (Hybrid – Office & Site-based)
Salary: Circa £28k DOE
Job Description:
An exciting opportunity for a professional in the water industry looking to take the next step in their career as a Project Engineer. This role provides hands-on involvement in managing projects from initial scope through to installation, offering the chance to develop further technical and project management skills. The position is hybrid, requiring a mix of office-based and on-site work across the Midlands, with occasional overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, ensuring effective communication throughout projects.
Assess customer requirements, schedule site visits, and evaluate technical needs.
Assist in project planning, including defining scope, identifying external contract services, and preparing cost estimates.
Support the design, manufacturing, and delivery process to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification.
Prepare and review risk assessments and method statements, ensuring project teams and customers are fully briefed.
Coordinate with internal teams to allocate resources and meet project milestones.
Oversee on-site activities, ensuring smooth operations with contractors and operatives.
Identify and escalate risks or issues to the Project Manager for timely resolution.
Assist in tracking and managing project costs in collaboration with the Finance team.
Obtain customer approval and sign-off upon project completion.
General Responsibilities:
Take on additional duties as required by management.
Stay up to date with industry standards and best practices.
Ensure all work adheres to company policies and procedures.
Attend internal and external meetings as necessary.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and contractors.
Comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Support company initiatives to improve health and safety performance.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Engineering qualification (Mechanical, Civil, or a related discipline).
Experience in the water industry, utilities, or a related field.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
Valid UK driving licence.
Willingness to travel and stay overnight when necessary.
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing project demands.
Excellent time management and organisational abilities.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills:
CAD experience (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
Knowledge of welding practices.
CSCS card.
First Aid certification.
