Job Description: Joining our established and expanding Nuclear team as a Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer means engaging in a diverse and growing array of UK-based projects. This role offers the opportunity to participate in multi-disciplinary projects at various stages of their lifecycle, from client consultancy to delivering comprehensive engineering design solutions.
Responsibilities:
1. You will be responsible for delivery of Mechanical Building Services design & engineering within that department, including the production of design documentation, design substantiation, as well as checking and approval of the work of other engineers & designers.
2. Develop and review design strategies for mechanical heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and other building services systems, ensuring they meet project requirements and industry standards.
3. Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, regulations, and sustainability standards, such as LEED, BREEAM, or local energy efficiency requirements.
4. Implement best practices in sustainable and energy-efficient design, utilizing new technologies, renewable energy sources, and smart building systems.
5. Perform technical audits and peer reviews of engineering designs to ensure quality, safety, and performance standards.
6. Collaborate with our in-house multidisciplinary team and external third-party consultants to deliver integrated design consultancy services on projects.
7. You will be responsible for mentoring and training more junior members of the MEP team.
Qualifications: The successful Engineer will have/be:
1. Qualified to a minimum of HND level and preferably have a good relevant engineering degree.
2. Chartered Engineer.
3. Membership of CIBSE, or a relevant and equivalent professional body.
4. Extensive experience in mechanical building services design from working in a range of market sectors, with a strong understanding of design principles and the ability to apply them.
5. Relevant experience in specification writing, calculations, and developing designs from first principles.
6. Understanding and knowledge using IES, and AUTOCAD.
7. Able to demonstrate management experience in leading a team or function, particularly within complex or novel assignments.
8. Demonstrable record of successful delivery, including positions influencing other professional engineers in the definition, implementation, and delivery of engineering work packages.
9. Experience in seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.
10. Able to provide mentorship to the junior MEP team and undertake assistance with the nuclear team's business development.
11. Able to establish new/or enhance existing processes/procedures.
12. Able to prepare and deliver technical presentations.
Preferred Additional Qualifications / Skills:
1. Knowledge of electrical building services design.
2. Have a working knowledge of appropriate nuclear standards and specifications as well as general engineering standards.
3. Experience in the nuclear sector, including new build and decommissioning projects.
4. Using Revit to be able to amend and investigate Revit models to ensure that the output is correct and appropriate.
