Design Manager - 1 Contractor - Major Civils & Rail Framework - (Covering - West London to Bristol)
My client is a top tier Civil Engineering Contractor.
They are presently delivering geotechnical and civils improvement works on a major Rail Framework which spans from West London to Bristol.
They are seeking to employ a Design Manager to assist with the timely delivery of projects in this region.
Previous experience of working on Rail and Civils project experience is essential.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. Manage permanent works design subcontract packages to achieve delivery of cost-effective and compliant Contractor's design within agreed timescales and fee budgets.
2. Implement design management procedures to comply with ISO 9001 design requirements and Client requirements for management of contractor's design specified in the Contract.
3. Lead project's implementation of Value Engineering, Design for Health and Safety, and BIM.
4. Draft project-specific Design Management Plan and revise periodically.
5. Control and track design changes using the Design Manager's Toolkit.
6. Implement the joint venture's and/or client's design assurance procedures.
7. Facilitate technical co-ordination between disciplines.
8. Facilitate review of design deliverables to ensure required Quality is achieved, particularly with respect to:
1. Compliance with Client's requirements as defined in the main contract;
2. Application of relevant British Standards and sector or Client-specific standards;
3. Production team requirements for buildability (cost, programme, safety, repeatability, design for offsite manufacture).
9. Ensure compliance with CDM regulations as they apply to design.
10. Oversee fulfilment of Principal Designer, Common Safety Method, and Engineering Safety Management functions.
11. Challenge Work-in-Progress design and facilitate development of design that eliminates or mitigates construction health and safety risk.
12. Ensure lead designer maintains Design Decision Register.
13. Lead administration of main contract with regard to Contractor's design (raise Early Warnings, Compensation Event notifications etc.).
14. Monitor cost and schedule performance of sub-contracted designers using EPPR proforma from Design Manager's Toolkit (or project-specific EVM based pro-forma).
15. Review subcontracted designers' applications for payment and authorize as appropriate.
16. Participate in the development of the project BIM strategy and oversee implementation of BIM Execution Plan with the support of the contractor and Design Consultant's BIM specialists.
Person Specification:
1. Degree qualified in civil engineering or equivalent.
2. Previous experience working as a Design Manager for a Civil Engineering Contractor.
