Job Title: Development Operations Manager
Reporting To: CFC Operations Manager

Role Purpose
To deliver outstanding service to our customers in a safe, respectful, aspirational, productive, robust, contingent, and flexible working environment. To manage and optimise CFC flow through use of the CFC OSP pages and ensure people are deployed appropriately to deliver on productivity and quality targets and assume operational management responsibility (people and process). To perform the role of Operations Manager as and when required by the business and be responsible for a specified business unit within the CFC. We will provide a 12-18 months programme with the Operations Manager to learn flow management and Operations Management skills.
Key Customers
This role will interact with several key stakeholders, including Area Managers, Area Coordinators, Operations Managers, and Operations Support teams to ensure optimal operational flow. You will also collaborate with senior leadership, engineering, HR, the Excellence Team, Health and Safety, Food Tech, GMDC2, LGV, and Delivery Operations departments.
Roles & Responsibilities
Process
* Monitor operational flows using the OSP pages; identify profile challenges, deploy resource to minimise their impact on flow, and collate information on occurrences/impact for subsequent review and investigation/resolution.
* Review activity data and challenge colleagues on their stewardship of resource/process to achieve planned levels of order fulfilment and throughput, optimal flow, and timely despatch whilst ensuring efficiencies through managing productivity targets.
* Balance flow and fulfilment; understanding stock issues and recirculation events to achieve optimal fulfilment levels and timely despatch minimising scratches.
* Prioritise the resolution of issues; manage support teams, escalate issues where appropriate and evidence making considered decisions when invoking ‘workaround’ processes.
* Ensure that preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to; liaising between the operation and its support teams to ensure assets are made available for servicing.
* Solicit ways in which flows can be improved; present supporting data to evidence the case for development/expenditure and champion such projects through to implementation.
* Provide comprehensive handovers to subsequent managers; presenting operating highlights, risks and opportunities to focus on in pursuit of continually improving performance.
* Challenge and amend performance metrics to deliver productivity expectancies and quality standards through measuring process capability rather than production outcomes.
* Champion the process of continuous improvement, developing business cases for funding and detailing implementation plans with which to guide your management team in delivering initiatives.
* Assist the Operations Managers on developing Area Managers understanding of flow management and ensuring the teams are working collectively.
* Ensure that processes are being followed to protect fulfilment that putaway times are managed, prevent pullouts, review rejection criteria, review process and engage with teams that impact fulfilment including scratches, xtotes, tote repatriation, cell locks, bot crashes etc.
* Identify process improvements that will assist with improving one of our 5 pillars: customer; cost; people; health & safety and quality. Be able to see projects through to completion and ensure implementation across different shift rotations.
People
* Recruitment – Conduct recruitment interviews and complete the selection process for Area Coordinator recruitment.
* Communication – Liaise with the Council and USDAW WPR, attend/chair production and team meetings, attend/chair Listening or Focus Groups. Deliver pre-shift briefings to your team; informing them of key business results, continuous improvement initiatives, and important messages regarding process and/or health and safety. Communicate effectively with your team to control unexpected events and ensure that requisite standards of safety, welfare, conduct and process are rigorously maintained.
* Conduct work place audits and feedback to Area Managers and escalate relevant issues to Senior Operational Managers.
* Conduct security searches and administer breathalyser testing as required.
* Adhere to and manage Food Safety Procedures.
* Assist and Support Engagement, Reward and General HR initiatives and provide counsel for all who seek feedback and learning; offer your knowledge freely, challenge others to understand processes end-to-end, and inspire them to do so.
Represent the organisation in the moral, legal and financial responsibilities for health and safety at work by ensuring that:
* Significant hazards and risks in your area of responsibility have been identified and effectively controlled.
* Employees for which you are responsible have been informed, instructed and trained regarding relevant hazards and appropriate safeguards and that they are competent to do their job safely.
* Workplace risks are communicated to the employee for which you are responsible via your health and safety briefs and establish that the employees are engaged and involved in the management of those risks.
* Work place audits are carried out by you to the required standard and within the required timeframe to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of identifying and controlling hazards and risks.
* Development – provide training, mentoring, coaching and development of Area Managers. Mentor Area Managers.
* Conduct formal people meetings - understand and apply the company policy appropriately to effectively manage and chair Right to Work, Flexible working, Disciplinary, Grievance, Absence, Appeals, Performance and Probation Review meetings up to and including dismissal.
* Solicit the experiences of the wider team to engender respect, team identity, loyalty, pride, trust and aspiration. Constantly encourage self-improvement, training and education.
* Foster aspiration in the wider team at every opportunity and assist the Operations Managers with providing Area managers with structured projects and bespoke development plans through which to demonstrate their talents.
* Promote engagement when managing seemingly negative behaviours; encouraging active listening, discussion, mutual understanding, and informal conflict resolution where possible.
* Provide counsel for all who seek it. Be visible and approachable, resolve issues fully and speedily, be honest about what can be achieved, and evidence effective stewardship of the situation.
You may also be expected to:
* Undertake tiered management/personal shopper tasks if the need arises.
* Work Nights or Day Shifts but this will be arranged with the Operations Manager & Senior Operations Manager in advance.
* Stand/walk for extended periods.
* Lift objects weighing up to 30kg (periodically) from the floor to shoulder height.
* Wear protective equipment to ensure requisite standards of health and safety are maintained.
* Train to use Mechanical Handling Equipment.
* Work in environments ranging in temperature from 30o C to -30o C.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
* Strong verbal communication, written and numeracy skills (essential).
* High levels of PC/Microsoft package literacy (essential).
* Working knowledge of computerised warehouse management systems (essential).
* Previous experience in a people management role applying company policies and procedures (essential).
* OSP experience (desirable).
* Qualified in either IOSH Managing Safely or Managing Safety at Ocado (essential) – can be obtained via Ocado in house course.
* Previous experience in a 24/7 productivity-conscious warehouse environment (desirable).
* Previous experience of working in an environment of similar scale (desirable).
* Previous/current qualifications in the use of Mechanical Handling Equipment (desirable).
* Previous experience in a continuous improvement environment (desirable).
