About the role
As we grow and more customers are adopting our platform, we are scaling up to meet the demand. This means more automation of our infrastructure and deployments as well as accurate health monitoring through all our clients, both new and old.
The person in this role will join the Site Reliability Engineering team (SRE). This team is transitioning away from a more traditional (client-facing) engineering model to develop a true SRE mindset and approach, alongside internal and external stakeholders.
This role is our second backshift SRE role and your role will be to help provide a service to our teams in other regions, particularly the United States. Therefore the roles requires someone who is a self-starter, happy to work between the hours of 1:30pm-10pm.
What You’ll Do
* Support customers by completing infrastructure operations support tasks and change requests.
* Become familiar with scheduling and coordinating team priorities via the SRE Kanban board.
* Contribute to automating or improving SRE activities
* Independently able to manage on-call scenarios, ensuring return of service promptly and escalating only in situations where there are wider implications to the company.
* Diagnose and triage escalated issues.
* Grow your understanding of the various tools used to monitor the stability of our infrastructure estate and seek opportunities to develop this by implementing alerts and dashboards that aid the team.
* Actively contribute to the quality of the teams work by using common testing practices and providing good quality reviews on PR's.
* Contribute to feature development of SRE automation and self-service tools
* Develop knowledge and understanding of our infrastructure estate and software release processes so that you can help manage the estate and deploy new version releases.
Technical Skills
* Work will involve the following technologies:
* Tools - Jira, Git , Github
* Platforms - Azure Technologies used by our application, Azure monitoring, alerting and dashboarding Azure Devops
* Languages - Pulumi & Terraform , Python , Yaml , Powershell
About you
There is lots of scope for growth within this role (and the company overall). Somebody who is a great fit for this role will already have experience in an SRE role, or be an establish software engineer keen to move into the SRE space. As this is a backshift role, you will need to be a self-starter, happy to work between the hours of 2:00pm-10:30pm.
* Working closely with others will be second nature to you, collaborating closely with your engineering colleagues, along with developing relationships with our support and implementation teams.
* Experience working in DevOps and/or Site Reliability Engineering or an experienced software engineer keen to move into the SRE space
* Experienced working with the following:
o Powershell (or similar scripting language) or Python
o Designing and building infrastructure using Azure and Azure Devops
o Infrastructure as Code
o CI/CD
* Comfortable debugging and understanding code
* Knowledgeable about a range of technologies, and enjoy learning others
* Have worked closely with all facets of an engineering department to drive good practice when it comes to deploying and making their systems observable
* Great at breaking down big tasks into small chunks, solving tricky problems and tackling risks
* Enjoy working in a busy, fast-paced culture
* Keep a cool head in pressure situations, maintaining a problem-solving mindset, but also knowing when to escalate
What you’ll get
* Starting salary between £44,100 and £50,000 depending on experience
* 15% uplift on base salary for hours scheduled between 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

Working Details
This is a full-time, backshift role and usual hours are 37.5 hours per week, 14:00 – 22:30. There is a requirement to cover some maintenance windows out of these hours (for which you will earn TOIL), as well as on-call rotation for out of hours major incidents.
We’re ideally looking for someone in/around Edinburgh, though we’re open to the possibility of this being a remote role (as long as you're in the UK). We don't mandate required office time, but we find that most of the team in Edinburgh enjoy working from home 2-3 days a week, and come into our office to connect with each other, make use of space, and for meetings.
