Hutcheon Mearns is working with a private equity backed business to hire a Financial Controller on a full time, staff basis. This position will join their Aberdeenshire based team.
The Opportunity
Managing a team of five, you will assume responsibility for one of the group's businesses operating within oil and gas services. In addition to managing the finance team responsible for these entities there is a requirement to business partner with the operations teams of these entities to communicate the monthly financial information, support in budgeting and forecasting, and assist in the overall business processes associated with the locations. Key duties include:
Financial Reporting:
* Review monthly reporting management packs and balance sheet reconciliations
* Prepare monthly bridge analysis to support financial results
* Supervise staff to process transactions accurately and timely for revenue recognition, accounts payable, payroll, cash disbursement, cash receipts, inventory processing and project cost accounting
* Lead the revenue recognition process for recognising project revenue and margins on key contracts
* Prepare weekly 12-week cash flow forecasting information
* Prepare annual budget and forecasts and assist with consolidation
* Assist with consolidation of the monthly financial reporting pack
* Oversee other profitability and financial analysis to support effective decision making.
* Support all internal and external audit programs to ensure timely compliance with requests.
* Develop and document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls
Commercial Support:
* Support with weekly KPI calls, reporting and analysing key metrics
* Support with financial and commercial information to assess and submit future tenders, including financial modelling of tenders, estimates and working capital assumptions
* Regular analysis of business cost base to set appropriate rates to enable appropriate cost recoveries
Operational Improvement:
* Identify opportunities for process improvement
* Optimise working capital
* Assist with group negotiations including key supply chain discussions and supplier management
Compliance:
* Ensure compliance with UK GAAP and group accounting policies
* Assist with preparation of draft statutory accounts for review by CFO
Background and Experience
* Fully qualified accountant with 1-3 years of post-qualification industry experience in a similar environment
* Proficient IT knowledge including advanced Excel skills and Power BI
* Exceptional communication, planning and leadership skills, as well as a desire for continued growth and development
* Self-motivated with a logical approach to problem solving
