Lake District Orthopaedics. High quality care in stunning surroundings!
Post name: Consultant - Trauma & Orthopaedics with specialist interest in Lower Limb Surgery at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust with base at Royal Lancaster Infirmary - Approved by the Royal College of Surgeons.
The Lake District is quite probably the most beautiful region in England and not surprisingly the National Park is the most visited in the country. Holiday makers are attracted here by the stunning scenery, the wealth of leisure activities and the multitude of good places to eat and drink. But why holiday here when you could be living and working here?
We are therefore delighted to offer this great opportunity for a suitably trained Orthopaedic surgeon to take up a permanent Consultant post working in a highly successful, modern department delivering outstanding results in a breathtakingly beautiful part of England.
Our strong ties with Lancaster University offer great opportunities to get involved with teaching medical students and with research.
Main duties of the job
You will join our Orthopaedic Team working at our Hospitals in Lancaster and Kendal.
You will undertake 10(+2) PAs including 1.5 SPAs and 1 admin PA.
A further 1 SPA can be awarded if justified (this will be reviewed within 12 months of taking up the post).
On-calls will be at Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), a level-two trauma centre, on a 1 in 10 non-resident basis covering general on call for Trauma & Orthopaedics.
You will be expected to complement the lower limb orthopaedic services offered by the Trust and provide the highest quality care to the local population. This should include all aspects of elective lower limb surgery including the surgical management of complex fractures. Submission and scrutiny of the last 12 months' surgical log book of prospective candidates would be an integral part of shortlisting and interview process. The post holder will be supported by their own SAS/Registrar grade doctor. Ward support will be provided by the 2 FY2 Drs, 2 CT level Drs, 2 specialist nurse practitioners and the trauma coordinators. The administrative burden will be supported by a named secretary and waiting-list coordinator. Upon taking up the post the post-holder will be offered a consultant mentor.
