Main Purpose of the Role:
To lead and oversee the end-to-end bid process, acting as a key touchpoint for Unipart Rail bids for all stakeholders. Deliver strategic bids to the customer base through the management and development of high-quality and compelling proposals to meet business targets for growth and profitability.
Management of People & Advisory:
Management of one or more direct reports is required. The role necessitates a high level of collaborative working and stakeholder management to meet set deadlines. You will need to influence key internal stakeholders within the immediate peer group, as well as cross-functionally throughout the wider business, to deliver the requirements of the role. Coaching of Business Development/Sales/Account/Product Management teams and other business teams is essential for effective compliance with the bid process.
Skills & Analysis Required:
Excellent customer and market knowledge is essential to lead, own, and support the development of proposals. A strong understanding of general bidding processes and procedures, along with a good knowledge of commercial terms and conditions, is required. Excellent bid writing skills and a collaborative approach to stakeholder management are critical.
The ability to work proactively and independently is essential, requiring analytical skills and judgment to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
Pressure & Working Environment:
Expect fluctuating pressure due to peaks and troughs in workload, with periods of high pressure due to deadlines and the range/amount of bids in process. You will be directly responsible for meeting critical deadlines and customer requirements to ensure business growth and retaining existing customers through contract renewals. A high degree of attention to detail is necessary to respond to complex bid requirements, maintaining a consistently high quality of work to secure new business.
The role may involve some travel, and out-of-hours working may occasionally be required.
Qualifications & Education:
Mathematics and English to GCSE standard or equivalent.
Formal Professional Qualification such as APMP or Project Management qualification.
Experience & Proven Ability Required:
Essential Criteria:
1. Experience managing bids/proposals and projects, delivering to exacting requirements and deadlines.
2. Experience responding successfully to formal tender exercises.
3. Excellent bid writing skills.
4. Demonstrable experience of working at all levels of an organisation, showing assertiveness and influence.
5. Experience managing multiple internal and/or external stakeholders.
6. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
7. Self-motivated and able to work independently in line with Company procedures.
8. Line management experience.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Knowledge of the rail industry and Engineering.
2. Relevant Degree Qualification.
