As a Domestic Assistant you will be responsible for keeping wards, offices, and public areas clean to a high standard. You will work as part of the domestic service team, as well as part of the wider community within the hospital setting.
Working Hours –There is typically a combination of part-time roles available, and you are more than likely to have a set shift pattern.
Monday to Fri - 16.00 - 20.00 = 20hrs per week)
(Monday to Fri - 17.00 - 21.00 = 20hrs per week x 2 positions)
(Mon Tue Fri 17:00 - 20.00 + Sunday 08.30. 14.00 = 14.25hrs per week)
(Sat - Sun 08.30 - 16:15 + 17:00 - 20.00 = 20hrs per week)
Entry Requirements -There is no entry requirement to become a domestic assistant, however you maybe required to complete NVQ Level 1 in cleaning.
Training -When you start as a domestic you will attend an induction and all relevant training will be given.
Communication skills- You will need good communication skills as well as caring and sensitive nature.
Physical Fitness -There is a physical component to working as a domestic assistant as you may be on your feet for long periods of time. A combination of physical fitness and knowledge of proper lifting and manual handling techniques allows you to properly perform the full range of your duties.

Domestic Assistant are responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleaning in line with infection prevention.
You will work from a daily/weekly schedule in both clinical and none-clinical areas, making sure that the hospital is clean, and that patients have a pleasant and safe stay.
As a domestic assistant you`re likely to perform a range of duties that include:
• Cleaning patients or service user’s room/ward
• Cleaning toilets and bathroom areas
• Cleaning communal areas, such as lounges, dining areas and corridors
• Clean utility room
• Carry out deep-cleaning operations in certain areas.
• Use the most appropriate cleaning equipment for the task, this may include vacuum cleaner, mops, or electric floor cleaner.
• Using cleaning products and other chemicals safely and effectively
• Keep up to date with safety procedures for example, fire procedures and escape routes and undertake appropriate workplace training.
Professional Duties
You will be responsible for the following within this position:
• Carrying out specific cleaning and other related duties to set procedures and standards.
• Ensure infection control policies are adhered to
• Work as part of a team, using a degree of initiative to prioritise and organise the daily duties, whilst always maintaining a professional approach.
• Ensure the cleanliness of clinical and non-clinical areas is maintained to the required standard
