To provide structured support to individual children aged 0-16 years on the Burns ward that have been identified as having specific problems. To monitor, prioritise and manage individual caseloads within designated teams or as directed by Burns Ward Sister and or Burns Lead Nurse.
This post will participate as a professional member of the Burns Team and contribute to the care of the patients of the Trust as part of the multidisciplinary team relating to their all-round cultural and diversity, developmental and emotional needs.
Children and their families will receive a high standard of care encompassing all their developmental and specialist play needs referred as inpatients or outpatients. Standards of clinical care are maintained and developed. Sensitive, complex and distressing situations are dealt with accordingly.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake assessments of patients. Complete appropriate documentation.
* Assess the communication needs of patients.
* Plan and implement the required treatment.
* Provide support to children/young people and their families who have sustained a Burn Injury.
* Participate and support with Burn Prevention Activities and Events.
* Ensure that the environment is conducive to meeting the needs of the child and family.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, reviews etc.
* Document and report any concerns relating to child protection issues as appropriate.
* Communicate the views of children, young people and their families.
* Work with children/young people with additional needs.
* Act in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Standards – Healthcare Play Specialist Education Trust (HPSET) and National Association of Health Play Specialist (NAHPS).
* Maintain Profession Registration – Healthcare Play Specialist Education Trust (HPSET).
* Co-ordinate the running of the local Paediatric Burns Support Group, Enzos Friends, and have involvement in the British Burn Association (BBA), Specialist Interest Groups and camps.
* Participate in continuing development to develop the knowledge and skills required for the post.
