We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with the appropriate NHS experience to join our Cancer Lead Team. The main functions of the team are to organise and facilitate cancer MDT meetings and to collect information about patients with a diagnosis of cancer to complete required data sets. The job also requires the tracking of all potential cancer patients from the point of referral to either treatment or where a no cancer diagnosis is made in line with the Cancer Wait Time national guidance.
Excellent word processing skills and knowledge of NHS databases and systems are required together with excellent communication skills. Knowledge of key Cancer Information Issues within the NHS is desirable.
The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and organisation of the Cancer multi-disciplinary team meetings and will attend these meetings obtaining and recording relevant information in real time. The meetings are attended by the Consultants and the MDT members. The post holder will collect, record and report relevant information as required in order to meet both national and local requirements in line with the Cancer Wait Time guidance.
The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of reports, investigation/x-ray results and clinic appointment outcomes being available for each MDT meeting to support clinical pathway decisions. They will be required to work closely and proactively with the clinical teams and work collaboratively within the cancer lead team ensuring the consistent delivery of service and cancer site specific specialities. Cross-covering for other Cancer MDT Pathway Coordinators within the department is a core requirement of this role, this will include MDT meetings and all data work associated with the patient’s pathway.
In pursuing these duties, the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and be familiar with the NHS England Guidance associated with suspicion of and definite cancer patient pathways.
To provide all administrative support to the tumour multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings – the post holder will be responsible for providing a service to one or more tumour MDT teams. This will involve preparing and facilitating the MDT meetings, typing of information in real time as it is discussed onto the appropriate systems, and setting up electronically video conferencing to allow other Trusts to interact with the discussion.
Responsibility for managing a cancer priority treatment list (PTL) for one or more tumour sites and initiating all actions required as part of managing a cancer PTL using the Cancer Wait Time Guidance as governance.
To track patients from point of referral to ensure that their pathway through the system is smooth and efficient and achieves appropriate cancer waiting time targets. This will include ensuring diagnostic tests are booked in a timely manner and liaising with other Trust Departments (such as the Outpatient department, Waiting List office, Medical Records etc) as necessary to ensure all Cancer Wait Time standards are met.
