St John’s is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dedicated full-time Teacher of English. The successful candidate will join one of the school’s most effective and respected departments, working and collaborating with an exceptionally committed and talented team of practitioners.
The English department’s results are consistently excellent and have been a major contributing factor to the exceptional whole school outcomes achieved in recent years. The subject is extremely popular with our pupils and uptake at A Level is very high; we offer both A Level English Literature and A Level English Language to our Key Stage 5 pupils.
This is an excellent and exciting time to join our thriving Catholic community and to be part of a highly enthusiastic, forward-thinking and supportive team. Applications are invited from experienced English teachers and those who are at the outset of their teaching career.
What the school offers its staff
St John’s is a very successful co-ed Catholic school with over 1300 students including c.300 in our Sixth Form. We have a very strong Catholic ethos and pride ourselves in being a warm and welcoming community, something that was externally recognised in our most recent Section 48 Inspection of January 2020, where we achieved ‘Outstanding Catholic School’ status. The school’s 2023 Progress 8 score of +0.33 was the sixth consecutive examination year that the school achieved a positive score on this key performance measure and a wonderful reflection of the talented and dedicated students and staff we have at the school. We are also projected to receive a positive Progress 8 score for 2024 (Progress 8 outcomes will be released by the government later this month).
This is an excellent and exciting time to join our thriving Catholic community and be part of a highly enthusiastic, forward thinking and supportive team.

St John's is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. This role includes specific safeguarding responsibilities, as defined in the job description. Our school’s dedicated Child Protection Policy can be viewed on our school website.
