We are looking to hire a hands-on Java Tech Lead responsible for leading the successful delivery, support, and best practice with the squad. You will provide technical guidance to junior members of the team, training and mentoring to the squads, both within your squad and across the department as required. What you'll be doing As the Java Tech Lead you will have input on design decisions and architecture strategy. You will be accountable for the Technical Design of solutions within the scope of your squad, ensuring full alignment with the overall Yodel architecture. In addition to this, you will be responsible for the following: Participates in Solution Design workshops, providing technical expertise, ensuring achievable designs Defines Technical Design, including workshops, and providing documentation, ensuring we implement scalable, stable, performant and maintainable solutions Partners with other Developers, and the Solution Design Team in driving modular, services orientated integration and solution architectures Partners with other Developers to deliver full-stack stories, ensuring the whole solution meets requirements Defines and supports re-usable application components from a business and technology perspective Establish technical standards and ensure adherence when performing code reviews or mentoring juniors Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in the team and encourage creative solutions Ensure Target solutions are achievable Provides achievable estimates to complete their assigned tasks and stories Provide technical impact for current and future requirements, feeding into the sizing of deliverables Enhance existing applications to meet changing business needs and requirements Liaise with Business Operations, Infrastructure and Service Management to resolve production issues, and underlying problems Excellent incident, problem solving capabilities and fault analysis to resolve the underlying cause of issues, keeping Service Now up to date with progress. What you need to show us The successful Java Tech Lead will be working in a hands-on role with a good working knowledge of Kafka. You will be responsible for Commercial/Customer facing projects so you will need to have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate technical requirements to business stakeholders. You will need to have experience with pair programming and enjoy coaching and mentoring junior developers. In addition, you will be an enthusiastic Java Tech Lead that is used to working within a fast-paced organisation. The successful Java Tech Lead will need to possess the following skills/experience: Good track record unit testing Hands on experience using Kafka technology Has experience with continuous automation of pipelines for example Jenkins Works in a collaborative and open way Has a working knowledge of Java (Spring Boot), Java 11 Detailed knowledge of micro services Test Driven Development Excellent incident, problem solving capabilities and fault analysis to resolve the underlying cause of issues, keeping Service Now up to date with progress You will have a proven capability to work independently whilst managing and prioritising your own workload as well as an ability to adapt and support the wider team as required.
