An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Community team, covering the Cardiff North West Locality.
This is a permanent 10-session Consultant post working in the Cardiff North West Community Mental Health Team. The role includes assessment and treatment of people over 65 years old with both functional (affective and psychotic disorders) and organic (neurodegenerative) illness, with frequent co-morbidity across both physical and mental health needs. Assessments occur in both the community (private homes or care homes) and hospital settings (outpatient, day hospital, acute assessment and extended assessment venues).
The appointee will be expected to work closely with other MHSOP services including Community REACT ('crisis') team, Nursing and Residential Care Home Liaison Service, Younger Onset Dementia Service, Assessment and Recovery Unit, and General Hospital Liaison Service. The post-holder will regularly participate and contribute to weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The new Consultant will work to the job plan encompassing CMHT and in-patient work. The Consultant and team will input to in-patients across five wards. Outpatient clinics are held weekly and are currently at University Hospital Llandough or Maelfa Centre, Llanederyn. The post holder will contribute to the service rotas.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £100,000 per annum to £146,000 per annum.
