Job Summary
Ensure efficient, cost-effective management of all Portering Services.
To organise, develop and improve Portering Services throughout the Trust.
Providing a customer focused service.
Ensure compliance with the Trust Quality Strategy.
SDGH - ODGH (Both sites)
Maintain all operational procedures.
Maintenance of computerised records as appropriate.
Compiling reports, data as required.
Involvement in the review of departmental work instructions and procedures.
Enforce compliance with the Waste Management Policy to meet changing
requirements as segregation requirements increase.
Ensure portering staff are fully aware of and comply with Hygiene and attend
regular update training with Infection Control.
Lead, implement and deliver into facilities operational procedures and
services that the Trust has agreed in the Sustainability and Carbon
Reduction Strategy.
Assisting with the transfer of bodies from wards to the mortuary, completion of appropriate records.
Work with the Accommodation department to enable a smooth changeover of
tenants within the residential accommodation and assist with day to day
problems
Maintain the operation of the Car Parking system and associated car parks.

Acute Care
Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.
Primary Care
Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.
Community Services
Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

• Assist the Logistics and Portering Team leaders with duties commensurate with grade. Ensure smooth running of the Portering and transport. To collect, distribute and deliver goods across all Trust departments and to Trust external customers.
• Assist with the deliveries and onward distribution of goods and paperwork to agreed locations within the Trust in a timely and efficient manner, report any obvious damage or discrepancy in accordance with the Trusts procedures.
• Safe patient movement from wards and departments (including unescorted movement)
• Delivery of meals, stores and provisions to wards.
• To collect and transport bloods and specimens to the pathology laboratory
• The collection of refuse including clinical, domestic, confidential, special and recyclable waste from wards and departments as required
• Safe transfer of bodies to the mortuary dealing with them and their families/relatives with respect
• Dealing with a range of queries and actively resolving them in relation to deliveries from NHS Logistics and suppliers across the Trust.
• Ensure that the stores areas are maintained in a clean and tidy condition and that access, and walkways are kept free from obstruction.
• Liaison with Transport and Portering staff to organise the efficient transfer of patients and goods as appropriate.
• Follow Waste Disposal Policy to ensure safe removal of waste, ensuring correct segregation of waste.
• To drive vehicles within legal parameters and with due care and concern for other road users. To carry out daily safety checks and inform the Transport & Logistics Manager of any defects in a timely fashion.
• To check the accuracy of the supporting documentation of received/delivered goods.
• Point of contact for Service Users over suitable transportation of staff and goods to various destinations.
• Specific responsibilities include delivering Sterile services, medical records, Pharmacy and general distribution of goods and paperwork to agreed locations within the Trust in a timely and efficient manner.
• You will need to be flexible and capable of working effectively within the busy environment of the Trust's Transport and Portering Teams.Retain flexibility in approach to meet changes to Transportand Portering Teamsschedules to fulfil Trust requirements
• When required ensure that all goods are receipted onto the appropriate system. Ensure that computer records are maintained accurately. To always respect patient confidentiality.
• Ensure that any empty roll cages, pallets, tote boxes and other returnable containers are returned with appropriate documentation to NHS Logistics or suppliers.
• Assist in the maintaining of accurate records and filing systems for delivery documentation made via the Receipts and Distribution area.
• To comply with Manual Handling Regulations, COSHH Regulations, and Health and Safety policies laid out by the Trust.
• Liaison and working with other colleagues within the Facilities and Commercial Services Department and other service users.
• Liaison with Procurement and Finance staff over issues relating to payment for goods received from or returned to NHS Logistics and other suppliers.
• To assist in the development of the service provided to customers in response to changes within the Trust.
• To comply with Manual Handling Regulations, COSHH Regulations and the Health and Safety policies laid out by the Trust. To keep up to date with all mandatory and general training either classroom based or on the ESR system.
• Monitor and maintain Health and Safety within the workplace ensuring existing potential hazards are put right or reported to the appropriate person in accordance with the Trusts Policy.
• Ensure that protective clothing, as provided by the Trust is worn as appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with all legislation relating to Risk Management.
