Randstad Student Support are recruiting for ASC Specialist Mentor to work with one student studying at University UCLan West Lakes Campus. The candidate must be able to travel to the following address to support the student: John Fyfe Building, Westlakes Science and Technology Park, Moor Row CA24 3JY
If you are able to travel and support this student we will allocate other students to your caseload around this area or remotely to ensure you have a caseload desirable to your work commitment.
The role is set to begin at the start of the new academic year (from 1st September 2024) and is a hybrid role. All successful candidates must be able to travel to the local University or college and offer both in person and online sessions flexibly to meet student preferences.
As a Specialist Mentor, you would be a trusted advisor for students. You will be required to assist students throughout the full academic year. You will help students to reflect on their experiences in study as well as introducing strategies to overcome certain barriers.
As a Specialist Mentor you will support students on a 1-2-1 basis to:

1. Support students in understanding what is required of them academically
2. Develop time management and organisational skills
3. Breaking down tasks to meet deadlines
4. Achieve an appropriate balance in study and daily living
5. Manage anxiety, stress or low mood
6. Prepare for new experiences
7. Build on confidence and strengths to become an independent learner
Whilst working for Randstad the needs of individual students should be taken into
consideration case by case and you should ensure that any concerns are addressed in a timely manner. It is expected that you would act professionally and maintain confidentiality within your role at all times, sharing all relevant information with Randstad to ensure the best possible service to your students.
Requirements for the role:
As this is a specialist role, you must have the correct qualifications and training. All students you will be supporting are funded by the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) meaning all candidates providing this role must adhere to the qualification framework set out by the DfE.
Candidates must be qualified to undergraduate degree level (level 6 as minimum) and have taken extensive training in adult autism.
The extensive training may include:
8. 6 National Autistic Society Modules (non medical helper package)
OR
9. The Optimum Training Course: Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies.

Desirable skills include:
10. Experience of working with autistic clients
11. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
12. Ability to identify ways of helping students to build on their learning strengths whilst maintaining a confidential and professional working relationship
13. Punctuality and reliability
14. Good organisational skills
15. Ability to manage a caseload of students
