NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) plays a vital role in saving and improving lives through the provision of high-quality blood and organ donations. As part of the modernisation of blood technology, we are seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer to lead the implementation and management of test automation for our blood technology systems.
You will play a key role in enhancing the testing capabilities and supporting the transition to a new C#/.NET code base, ensuring that the technology meets business requirements and is safely deployed into the live environment. Main duties of the job
1. Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the test automation framework for blood technology systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards like GMP, GAMP, and GDP.
2. Write and maintain test scripts, including manual, automated, and performance tests, to ensure the quality and safety of software systems.
3. Carry out automated testing, produce test results, and log defects, communicating findings to developers and stakeholders for resolution.
4. Analyse test scripts and prepare the necessary test data based on system knowledge and business processes.
5. Lead the automation of testing activities, ensuring that new technology changes meet business needs and are delivered safely to the live environment.
6. Mentor junior test engineers and promote awareness of test automation across the organisation.
7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensuring the timely and efficient execution of test activities, including the prioritisation of tasks.
8. Support the development of continuous improvement initiatives within the Blood Systems Testing team and NHSBT as a whole.
9. Provide expertise in test automation, contributing to the development of best practices and ensuring compliance with software testing standards.
10. Manage the planning and execution of test cycles, including task estimation and resource allocation.
11. Actively participate in business requirements review sessions to define test cases and determine testability.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree-level qualification in a related subject or equivalent relevant experience.
* Postgraduate diploma in software testing or equivalent experience is desirable.
* Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
Experience
* Significant experience as a system test automation engineer, with expertise in both 'black box' and 'white box' testing.
* Experience with Oracle and Microsoft .NET technologies, and knowledge of software testing in Agile/Lean environments.
* Familiarity with software testing standards, such as BS7925-1 and BS7925-2.
* Experience with Microsoft Office packages and test management tools.
* Proven track record in mentoring and training junior engineers.
